anyone else seen this?

it's an independant film (read: slow paced, realism vs. action) about the Inuit. traditional curse/love/revenge theme. but it's a great setting (arctic) and has lots of day to day living/survival stuff.

i've never been to the arctic, but watching the movie really made me feel like humans can thrive just about anywhere.

i think it's supposed to be pre-white contact, but i'm pretty sure i saw an aluminum pot. probably a continuity mistake.

I haven't seen it yet, but I have been wanting to.

Have you seen Nanook of the North? It's the first documentary film ever made. It's about an Inuit family lving in the Arctic. It's amazing in many ways; since this is a wilderness and survival forum, I'll just say that all you wilderness survival folk will see lots of interesting stuff and love this movie.

Try to get ahold of the Canadian National Filmboard series on the Netsilik Eskimo. These are pure gold, shot in, I belive, the mid-late 60s, it follows the seasonal round of an Inuit family. Apparently, this was the last year to go out on the land, and they were convinced to put away the rifles and skidoos for one last go at the old ways. Lots of good stuff in here (how to make a sledge out of sealskin, fish and carbou anlters is classic...).

I've seen both of the last 2 mentioned - absolutely fascinating...

Must've been about 6 years ago, though, for my memory fades me now.

It's astounding. But be prepared for a complete shift in your frame of mind - it's slow. I loved it. Two friends I saw it with hated it.
