Movie "The Village"

I saw it last night and when the so called twist was revealed I laughed until I cried. It goes on my personal list of memorable worst movies ever. Definitely wait for DVD. Have lots of friends over Because it is a lot fun when large groups have uncontrollable laughter.

I'd say those two reviews are about as far away from one another as two reviews can get.

I liked The Sixth Sense.

I could have done without seeing SIGNS

I'll give this one a shot on DVD and see how it is. A movie has to look really, really good to get me to go to the movies these days. The ticket prices are just too ridiculous.

On my way to see it tonight. Shyamalan reminds me of Hitchcock. Simple stories well told. Good at suspense. I've enjoyed all his movies so far, especially "The Sixth Sense" and "Signs".

I have to say it is very well acted. Bryce Dallas Howard (daughter of Ron "Opie Cunningham" Howard) is wonderful, Joaquin "Leaf" Pheonix continues to impress and William Hurt turns in a powerful performance as well.

I had all the major details figured out in the first 20 minutes, but still didn't find the film as implausable as some of the directors other works. Worth seeing for the performances, wait for the DVD.

This movie was not good at all. Both major twists in this movie were horrible, each for different reasons. One was very predictable and the other destroyed the whole premise of the movie. The actors did well with the limited material, but this movie was still stupendously boring. This movie is not "so bad its good", its just bad.

I thought the movie was quite good. The problem really is after "Sixth Sense" everyone is trying to figure out the twist. If this movie was Shymalaman's first everyone will be making a big deal out of it.

It was definatly creepy and more plausible than his other stories.

The Sixth Sense" was one of the best horror movies I've seen. Seeing Bruce Willis actually act is nice too (although his best remains "Twelve Monkeys").

"Unbreakable" was one of the most boring, predictable movies I've ever seen.

"Signs" was one of the lamest, most boring movies I've ever seen. I'd say it was predictable, but nothing happened that needed predicting. I could have done without the "Priest loses then regains faith" bit too. It was done much better in "Dusk til Dawn".

I think I'll skip "The Village".

I grew up in a village like this one. It was called Grand Rapids Michigan. And the Monster wasnt in the forest..it was everyone who didnt attend the Reformed Church.

I thought the movie was fascinating.

I really enjoyed the sixth sense too. I thought that unbreakable was a really good movie, maybe my favorite.

I'm not an M Night fan. I'm also getting fed up with horror flicks. Enough with the cliched "creepy little/girl boy whispers something that's supposed to be scary because kids are innocent" line. It's overused. And you don't need a twist to make a good movie. Some movies (like The Usual Suspects) pull it off incredibly, while others make a cheesy ending. Filmmakers are trying too hard, and if the Exorcist IV is bad, I won't be happy.

Please do not insult Hitchcock by comparing him to "Mr Trick Ending" Shamalamadingdong.
I liked Sixth Sense (once), Unbreakable, and Signs wasn't too bad, but comparing him to Hitchcock doesn't make sense. He never used trick endings, you were on the edge of your seat the whole time.
Someone leaked the "secret" of the Village to me, and I think it's so darn silly that I am gonna wait for it to show on cable.

I'm with you 100%. There hasn't been true horror movie in years. The "creepy kid" is an especially ineffective device. And what, I ask you, is so scary about possessed dolls? There's a whole sub-genre in horror movies that deal with scary dolls and puppets. What kind of milk-toast is afraid of a freakin' doll?

I really liked "the village" as well as "sixth sense" "unbreakable" and "signs".
I also agree with the hitchcock comment. I think he would appreciate Nights movies.

The previews looked good but SIGNS sucked to a degree that i will never pay to go to see his movies in the theater again, maybe on dvd.

Saw The Village last night at the drive-in with some friends. Thank god I didn't actually set up a date and pay full theatre price for this flop....I hated it. Lame plot, not scary at all, lousy script, predictable as all hell (I figured out the second twist and part of the first before I even saw the movie, and without reading spoilers). I liked Sixth Sense a lot, and Signs was pretty good, but don't waste your money on this one.

I actually thought the US version of "The Ring", was the best horror flick to come out in a long, long time. Naiomi Watts didn't hurt it, either.

I liked the Sixth Sense, but I have hated every other M. Night S. movie--especially Signs!
What a let down that movie was.

I'll pass on the Village.

Mr. Bad Ex. - "Psycho" didn't have a "trick" ending?

While I didn't care for "The Village" (long movie, not a very good plot), I still think that Shyamalan established good characterization, tension and suspense. Remindes me of Hitchcock except he's missing the great scores of Bernard Herrmann. I don't think "Signs" had a trick ending. Neither did "Unbreakable". That's not what carries Shyamalans films for me. Good characters supported by (until "The Village") a good plot.
