I was a huge fan of the 1980's TV show with Edward Woodward. Good writing, very good acting. So I was actuyally very hesitant to bother seeing the movie with Denzel Washington. As a rule, I hate remakes, and feel strongly enough that the makers of Hollywood remakes should be publicly flogged when they screw up an original.

But…

I was more than pleasantly surprised with this re-imaging. I think I can call it that. They were smart enough that they didn't just copy it line like they did with the remake of True Grit and others. They actually did a great job to the extent I could see myself wishing for them to bring on more of them with this format. Perhaps even a new series updated to modern times with modern life. They put a whole different slant on it with this version. I liked it. :thumb up:

Maybe there's hope for remakes after all with a little creativity?

I also enjoyed the film and remember the original series. Not sure if anyone but Denzel could've pulled it off. Kinda reminded me of "Man On Fire".

I totally enjoyed the movie. While I liked the TV show, I enjoyed the movie even more. Can't wait for part 2

I too used to watch that show I was a kid back then so it was like a James Bond style mini series for me and my friends. I'm glad to hear the movie is acceptable and enjoyable.

It was pretty good. As a movie, I liked it a lot. But as "The Equalizer" not so much. In the show he was not just the relentless killing machine that Denzel was in the movie. Probably because it was a film not a tv show so everything got amped up. Edward Woodward was not the last action hero.

The movie McCall could have been John Creasy or John Wick.

The tv show also had that sweet Jaguar XJ6.
