I can't find a thread with this title so I started it :)

I saw The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel last night, highly recommended! Excellent performances, Bill Nighy in particular as good as I've ever seen him. A lot of subjects are touched on in the film, some a bit controversial. It all works out in the end though.

Yeah,

I saw a couple of movies this week.

First, one of the best westerns ive seen - True Grit with Jeff Bridges and Matt Damon. Jeff Bridges is a badass in that movie, IMO on par with CLint Eastwoods best western characters.

I also saw Julias Eyes, a spanish thriller about a woman, who is slowly going blind, whilst trying to investigate her sisters suspicious suicide. Also a good movie.

And i finally i saw Inception with Leonardo De Caprio. Pretty radical story and visually awesome!

Hugo, sucks.

I haven't seen a good movie in a long time.

We have both Netflix and premium cable, so we watch a lot of movies.
Capsule stuff:
"Drive". Got excellent reviews. We didn't like it. Fairly well done but really poor ending.
"True Grit" remake was excellent. I like the Coen brothers.
"Planet Of The Apes". This "prequel" was not bad, but there were too many "just so" elements to move the plot.
The apes looked good...

"Cowboys and Aliens". Quite good, actually, a sci-fi actioner set in the old West. Only problem I had was that the trailers gave you the impression of an action-comedy, while the actual movie was quite dark.

"Rango". If you like animation and Johnny Depp... Watch this one. Very clever; an adult animated film.

"Sucker Punch". I love this weird little film. OK, hot chicks with guns. Thumbs up on that. But it's more than that. Production is top rate. The action sequences, the music, all terrific. And I found the fantasy action sequences to be just the sort of thing a tormented young girl might dream up from contemporary culture.
I bought the blue-ray.....

I've seen the Coen Brothers True Grit and I thought it was excellent. It's nice to get a modern remake you don't mind watching in front of your children.

I'm really fishing for info on recent releases it's worth forking out to go to the pictures for :)

Act Of Valor

Can not recommend this one enough.Every American should see it!

It's the only movie I've seen in some time.

Enjoyed it, even though my colleagues pretty much MADE me see it.

Acting ... not good. But then, this exercise in movie-making is not about the acting.

Most recently via Netflix on demand was a total waste of 2 hours and possibly one of the worst films I have ever seen~

"TRESPASS" with Nicole Kidman and Nicholas Cage. Just PASS on this one. Don't say I didn't warn you. I was ready to blow my brains out if I heard the slide on

the shotgun one more time!

Nicole is aging gracefully.

They just can't stop re-making Dumas' classic, can they? When I saw the trailer for the current one, with Mila Jojovich as Lady DeWinter... Whaa...?
The best version, IMO, is the 70s version with Oliver Reed, Richard Chamberlain, Raquel Welch, et al. Not only did they stick closely to the actual story, but the action sequences were first-rate.
Fights were rough-and-tumble, with the actors gasping for air and sweating instead of the silly 15-minute long fencing duels we had in all those Errol Flynn epics.
In one scene, Athos threatens Lady DeWinter with a wheelock pistol, and actually winds the lock with a spanner. You don't see that sort of detail in most such films.

Best movie I've seen lately is "Girl With The Dragon Tattoo", the Swedish version, still havn't seen the Hollywood version but have high expectations.

The last movie I watched was "Tyrannsaur" directed by Paddy Considine. It's an interesting film, all be it rather hard going.

Just saw Six String Samurai. Strange little movie. Cool music.
