Don't know if you guys saw this, but it was posted in the HI Cantina. It's about a guy building stonehenge in his backyard, but I figured lots of you would find it interesting too. How would you like to move 30 ton slabs by yourself, with NO power equipment? The ideas may come in handy for you guys who like to plan for SHTF scenarios in the city, down to moving logs to build a cabin.

Hit the gym, big time. That failing, an elaborate system of levers, pulleys and rollers would probably be in order.

ok, that is the coolest thing i've seen in years - all of a sudden i want some nice empty fields and access to cheap concrete.:D

thanks for the link!

Hey Possum,

Thanks for posting that. As a guy with a bad back, I'm always interested in how to move things more easily - especially really heavy weights.

I've seen the pit idea used before in another show. The biggest problem, as I recall, was moving the stones to the site in the first place (in the show I'm think of, they used logs as rollers to move a stonehenge-sized stone about a mile. But it was really hard to do.)

Anyway, after watching this show, I'm convinced that stonehenge was built by some guy thousands of years ago who was trying to show how they built some really old monument they had laying around.... :D :D

And all the pyramids all around the world? They were built by bored students learning construction projects.

I saw this a few months ago.

This video is AMAZING.

I think many of us would like to know more about
moving heavy stuff. What works and what does not.

My father-in-law is fascinated with that guy. I think mostly he's just jealous. :D

For those interested in moving heavy things, you might like Moving Heavy Things, a book about doing just that. It's got some how-to type information, but it's mostly a well-illustrated "idea guide". If you buy it along with "Tying it up, Tying it down" for $21, you'll have lots of good ideas for getting things moving, and keeping them from moving. :)

Cheers!

Wow, its amazing at what people can accomplish when they set their mind on something.

Hehehe--- yeah, like all those guys at Caterpillar :) They have all kinds of big yellow toys that will move heavy stuff real easy like :D
