New to this forum. Been eyeing busses for a while now once I found website and learned a lot more. I have a few swamp rats, which pretty much do what I want to do. But I've been kind of bored with knives lately, and haven't found anything I really wanted. Started browsing the bad mojo site and reading on Busse steel. I have a few questions. What are the performance difference in swamp rat, and Busse, especally in terms of steel? What are some of the abuse testing that has been done with busse, and how long will this knife last me?

I have yet to look at all the models and whats available..mostly I'd be looking for a 4-4 1/2 inch blade, 1/4 thick, but good size grip to it. Tough like the pasta I make when drunk.

its going to be difficult to find a current production small-midsized blade in .250 thickness, because the new standard is .220.

a basic pictoral list of the new model prototypes

now that i have my "perfect" (or as close as i ever expect to come to) set of busse knives, i dont really have anything i want to buy, and dont exect to see anything for a long time, but i still have some interest in various styles of knives that i havent gotten to handle. one way to help ease the financial burden of buying knives like that, make them yourself :D it'll keep you looking into other aspects of knives where you wouldnt normally look in just consumerism reasearch

Well I'm gonna have to wait till at least the end of xmas before I can get one. I'll keep looking on the exchance for something but what are all of the names of the smaller blades so I know what to look for. I can deal with a little less thickness then I want. Far as I know, these are the toughest knives in the business, so I'm assuming this is the next step in performance.

If you find a small model that strikes you fancy but still rather have it slightly thicker I'd email the custom shop (Garth) for a quote.

Here are the smaller Busse model names that I can think of (at least, this early in the morning ;) ):
- Active Duty (AD)
- Badger Attack (old straight-handled, BA-E, and BA III)
- Mean Street (MS)(1/4" thick) and Lean Mean Street (LMS)(3/16" thick)
- Buffalo Soldier and Groove Master
- Killer Bee, aka Killer B (has a Japanese wrap handle)
- Public, Jungle, and Urban Defender models
- Tanker A
- Third Finger (long discontinued model)
- Basic 3 or Basic 5 (or the Euro 4) that will look like Swamp Rat knock-offs to you ;)

For skeletonized knives:
- Assault Shaker (very small)
- Skeleton Key in various color schemes
- Bad Apple (rather rare)

(edit to add) If you haven't seen it yet, be sure to check out the Bad Mojo site at the link below:

for what it's worth my 3/16 public defender is my first choice for a med. size blade. excellent design with its japanese tanto point and fluted micarta handle. give one a try ;)

Take a look at the ABLE (anorexic badger limited edition), it's one sweet blade. A little thinner than you may like, but it's that way for a reason.

Tough pasta RULES!

Screw the water! Just add some Neuman's Own and the beer will do the rest!:D :D :D

BTW, keep your eye out for all that RokJok posted. My favorite EDC's are my Desert Warfare Mean Street or an Active Duty, but for something larger an Ergo Badger Attack or Tanker A can't be beat!

Now that's the stuff. :D

Can't forget the PT5. It's not a whole lot bigger than a BA-E.

If you decide on something along this line, there is a Desert Anorexic Badger Attack over on the "For Sale" forum.... :D

So many busses to look at, and the all of the names, and specs! Think I'll take anything, with plain edge, and bare steel. I like to clean and polish knives...can't really do that with coated blade. I be on the look out!

My kitten ripped one in my face too.
