Moving the pocket clip to where it doesn't belong

I've decided that my CRKT Kasper really should be carried tip-up, which is not how it is built. (I know it's tip-down for safety but I'll keep the blade against the side of my pocket.)
Question is, do I need a tap-and-die set to put three clip holes on the other end? Or is there an easier way to modify the knife? I'm not worried about voiding the warranty on a $37 knife.

Thanks,

Shmackey

Freinds and I have had a local machine shop change a mess of knifes to tip up carry. We have also had several right hand, tip down knives converted to left handed, tip up carry. These include Emerson Comanders (already tip up, but converted to lefty), CRK&T M16s (several), Spyderco Harpies and a few others.

The Kasper would be no problem. The clip would probably have to be mounted just below the lanyard hole. Which brings up the question, "Why in the world would a company put a lanyard hole on (and in some cases an OEM lanyard) a tip down carry knife?" Does one really need a lanyard in your pocket?

Hey Guys....

I also have a CRKT Kasper and was thinking the exact same thing...

As far as I'm concerned Tip Up is the only way to go.
The tip down carry on this blade makes it, at least for me next to useless and unless I have it adjusted it'll probably it in the drawer and collect dust..

Too bad as it's a pretty decent knife, and I wouldn't mind putting it in the cycle, but just can't be bothered carrying it the way it is set up...

Who can do this type of conversion and at what price ???

Thanks for bringing up this topic,, maybe CRKT will look at this a drill a few extra holes for us!!

I e-mailed Spyderco a couple of weeks ago to try to convince them that it would be a good idea for them to move the pocket clip holes to the other side of my (stainless) Endura II folder, so it would be more "user-friendly" for me (I'm "Left-Handed").

I got the reply from them that it just wasn't gonna happen...

Anyone have a "new-style" Endura "LWT" (the one with the "plastic" handles, and the pocket-clip that can be moved to the "other" side), that you would want to trade for my stainless Endura II?.

Sounds good, but what's a machine shop? Where could I find one in a big city?

Thanks,

Shmackey, a machine shop is another name for a shop that does tool and die work. As to where you'd find one out where you live I'm afraid I can't help you with that. Try the yellow pages. Good luck.

Check with a local knife shop to see if they can recommend a machine shop. Otherwise, find a gunsmith.

You would certainly not need a tap and die set to put holes in the scales of a knife. Indeed, it would not be possible, as taps and dies thread holes and rods respectively.

You would need only the proper size drill to make the hole to be tapped, and a tap of the correct size and thread pitch. These are readily available as separate items in hardware stores. Walt
