Moving to Montana?

Hello there everyone.
I am considering returning to college within the next couple of years (nontraditional student) and study Pharmacy. Unfortunately this will require me to leave Maine as the courses are not offered anywhere in the state. I have located some schools I feel are acceptable, in areas I feel to be acceptable(no cities).
I am strongly leaning towards The University of Montana at Missoula, though I have never been out in that area before. The wife and I are considering moving out there this coming fall(07) to give ourselves a little time to get rooted before I return to school....maybe part time in the second semester.

So, long story short, if anyone who lives in Montana or has in the past wants to give me an on the ground impression of the life there that wouyld be great.

To give a base line, I live in downeast Maine. We are heavily dependent on both the fishing industry and the tourism. I was raised in the former, and now do the later. The economy here isn't looking too good. As I understand only two states had decreasing economies in 2005.....one suffered Katrina......the other was Maine.

I posted something similar a while back on another forum and had some good feedback.
Any help would be great.
Thanks.

I went to school at MSU in Bozeman. I love Montana. It is a great place to live. Unsurpassed scenery. Great people (in my experience). Close to both Yellowstone and Glacier National Parks. Skiiing out the wazoo. Killer summers and being from Maine you'll probably enjoy the winters. Lots of cultural stuff, but still has lots of open spaces. The highest compliment I can give it:

It's like Texas with mountains. :D

I live 25 miles west of Missoula, moved here about 1 year ago.
I was born in Butte and raised in California.
Nothing like Montana,it is beautiful
The Pharmacy program at UM is real good too.Have a couple of aquaintenses(sp)who graduated.
Laid back area with great fishing.

I've been to Montana a few times, the most recent was about a year and a half ago in Missoula. I absolutely hated it. There is ALOT of outdoor/wilderness/whatever you may call it, and I MUCH prefer being in a city.

Just my opinion though, you would love it if you enjoy hunting/hiking/fishing/etc.

..and I never once encountered any friendly people.

I came out here (WA state) from Polson MT(about 50 miles north, on Flathead lake) Words can not describe the absolute beauty of the place. Like stated above, the people are great, the outdoors offer more than you can hope to do in a lifetime and if you like huckleberries.....:D
Awesome place!

I grew up in the eastern part of Montana and went to college at MSU in Bozeman. I love it there and wouldn't mind moving back someday. If you like to hunt and fish you will be in heaven. The biggest drawback can be the bitter cold winters. I don't mind the extreme cold but for someone not use to it, it can be shockingly cold. Temperatures in the -10 to -20 degree F range are not uncommon in the winter.
