I'll be moving to Arkansas at the end of this week. That's where my wife's parents live and there's nothing compared to having doting grandparents nearby. Plus, they want us to help them develop some land they own.

It'll be a good move for us. I was prepared for the worse, but I've got a job lined up and a new place arranged already.

Just wanted to let you guys know....especially the ones in the Northwest Arkansas/Oklahoma/Missouri area....:D

:p

So, I'm all excited...getting ready to go.....and the other day I'm driving along about a half-mile from my place and I see this sign posted on a strip mall next to a Safeway:

"Harbor Freight - coming soon!"

Arrrrrrrrrrrrgghhhhh.........!!!!
(in my best Charlie Brown voice)

Walking distance to a Harbor Freight would've been awesome.

I showed it to my mother when she was here for the new baby.....she said "They must have opened it because there were all these orders coming from Gaithersburg....."

Mom got a Santoku as a gift from me the next day.

:D

Wish me luck on the move, guys! Hopefully I'll be settled in before the 4th of July weekend. Might be a good weekend to celebrate "new beginnings", eh?

Good luck to you and your family Dan. I hope the move goes smoothly and everything goes positive when you get there without any bumps in the road.

A change is good Dan. GEt your website up while your at it...he he ;)

Drive safe my man. A road is something we take for granted......

Dan: Sounds cool and the best of luck. Just let me know when you are all settled so we can do up my site. :D

man your going to have a drive to the next H/I aren't you :)

good luck and best wishes pen man Dan :p

methinks you're biased, Tom.....:D  :p

Thanks for the well-wishes guys....can't tell you how much I dread pulling a trailer full of stuff.....:(.......sure be glad when it's over. We're going to take it easy....no rush. #1 Goal = arrive safe-n-sound.

Not to worry, Dan...

From HF's website: FAYETTEVILLE, AR 5320 W. SUNSET Opening Soon!

They have the city wrong - W. Sunset is actually in Springdale. I really hate the traffic in that area, too, but it looks like I'll just have to suffer. :D

Best of luck Dan, I guess I'll have to wait 'till the next Blade show to see you again, huh? Our best wishes to you and yours and have fun at the new HF.

Dan, please over look my first impression if it is offensive. Here goes: I always thought you according to your avatar picture did not go with the concrete of Maryland. I always have addressed you, in passing, as 'big guy'. You belong where there is enough space for you to be more happy. I have never been to Arkansas but I think it more open than Maryland. Just my feelings, partly because I hate concrete and partly because I feel concrete is so confining to a man's spirit.

Grats, Dan! I sure do envy you because although I'm a native Mainer, I spent so many years in the South during my Air Force years, I got it in my blood and under my skin. No finer place to be than Texas imho, but Arkansas is a close second for me! (This is where I would stick the "green with envy" smilie if we had one)

No offense taken, Roger. On the contrary, I couldn't agree more.

Jim is right that there's pavement "on the rise" there.....but Metro DC it ain't....:D......On the way to work this morning, I looked over at the traffic stacked up 5 lanes deep, moving at 5 mph, still 15 miles outside DC and suddenly a BIG smile came across my face.

I love the south, Jeff. Feels like I'm moving back home.

The other benefit of leaving the pavement is the change in $$$. I inquired about an acre of land a year or so ago (getting ready to build a house). The cheapest piece with a 15 mile radius of my place was $300,000. So, I asked for an eighth of an acre...:o.....again the cheapest piece I could find was $50,000 and it was 20 miles north of me "in the country".

In NW Ark.....average was around $10-20k an acre. ;)

Thats near my old stomping grounds. I was born in Kansas and we used to vacation in the Ozarks of Arkansas. Best of luck on the adventure!
