The title pretty much says it. Which of these do you recommend? Thanks in advance, tf. ;)

I use Macs and have been using their Browser, Safari, for a long time. I haven't had a pop up or a problem in years with it. I think Firefox has many of the same features as Safari, and I've heard lots of good things about it.

I'm running Firefox. . . .after many years of using MS IE :barf: . And I'm extremely happy with the switch !

I'll never go back to MS IE !

Well I downloaded Firefox. I'll try it for a week or so. I do have to say that it is markedly faster than IE. Thanks for the input. ;)

FireFox all the way, been using it since the pre-release days and have had no problems.

Firefox. If you're on broadband, try this out. It's a speed tweak I ran across on another forum, it worked great for me.

Here's something for broadband people that will really speed Firefox up:

1. Type "about:config" into the address bar and hit return. Scroll down and look for the following entries:

network.http.pipelining
network.http.proxy.pipelining
network.http.pipelining.maxrequests

Normally the browser will make one request to a web page at a time. When you enable pipelining it will make several at once, which really speeds up page loading.

2. Alter the entries as follows:

Set "network.http.pipelining" to "true"

Set "network.http.proxy.pipelining" to "true"

Set "network.http.pipelining.maxrequests" to some number like 30. This means it will make 30 requests at once.

3. Lastly right-click anywhere and select New-> Integer. Name it "nglayout.initialpaint.delay" and set its value to "0". This value is the amount of time the browser waits before it acts on information it recieves.

If you're using a broadband connection you'll notice pages load faster especially if you are reloading a bunch of tabs at once. Well, I did.

I was disliking Firefox and was only using it from time to time because I didn't like how it was slower compared to IE or the alternative browsers I would use. After this tweak, I have made it my primary broser with Maxthon/MyIE2 as my secondary. I still use IE but only for 2 sites. Hotmail and Fileplanet. I use it for FP because I forgot my friend's membership account but all the info is saved in IE.

If you want to tweak other settings but don't know what they do go to:

or you can google "about:config firefox" and get some results or just click this link for the Google search results:

Been using Firefox for a couple of months now. Remarkably free of adware/spyware now, last couple of times I ran Spybot I got none. Also dropped Download Accellerator, as the built-in download facility seems just as good, and again, no adware.
Tabbed browsing is cool.

Like Chiro75, I'm on a Mac and Safari replaced IE a long time ago. I've been on Firefox a little more than a week and I like it very much. There are times that Safari seemed faster, but I've made Roadrunners corrections and see they improve the speed or not. I'll probably keep both open.

Firefox is nice. I like the idea of extensions, tabbed browsing, popup blocker, lack of shell integration, and the fact that I can move the GUI around to my liking - I can get the entire toolbar onto one line, leaving maximum space for pages.

Also it's a project that is always being worked on. That's a good thing in many ways.

How were you able to get down to one tool bar? I was working on that earlier but could not pull it off. ;)

After having my own problems with IE adware, spyware, and assorted malware on my own and friends machines, the very first thing I did on my new laptop was install Firefox. I'm committed to using it exclusively, because IE is just swisscheesed with weaknesses, I think.

Thanks!!

A question for anyone that knows, can I leave IE6 on my computer?
The Q&A on the firefox site were contradictory, and I would like to keep IE also.
I kept mine and it does not appear to be causing any problems. ;)

Much as I would love to ditch IE, I haven't been totally successful so far. There are one or two sites I've run across that don't want to display right on FireFox. I'm sure they could be made to work, but I'm lazy. Still, most of the time Firefox rules the roost.
