Many thanks, man. THose are some sweet pics. I've always sort of been on the fence regarding serrated or PS blades, and I tend to prefer PE blades overall, but seeing the pics of the combo edge black MPT in the Boker catalog started me thinking more favorably about serrations again (that, and noss' recent LMF test vids). Seeing your pics, I'm definitely sold. That MPT is just one of the coolest looking knives I've seen in recent times, and the serrations look nice and beefy too.

Thanks again.

Nice pics! Mikes mods are real nice! What do you think of the Subcom fixed blade?

thanks for the kind comments guys....
hi mmmotorcycle, the Subcom Fixed I like for its compact length of 5.5 inches but it fills the hand well when gripping it (like the "biscuit" Subcomfolders) esp. with the groovy jimping on the spine and "butt" of the handle....so I really like its ergos esp in the forward grip... the thickness of the Subcomfixed appears to be a couple of mm's thicker than the MPT .... it feels really "beefy" in the hand despite weighing slightly over 3oz.... here are some crappy pix....
pardon the appearance of the Subcomfixed....I'm in the middle of polishing the beadblasted finish from the blade....

He Brian,

Nice picks man:)

Just some remarks. Do you think the MPT outperforms the SCF by the reason of the thicker blade of the last one ? I know:p the MPT has a longer edge without the potterma pimmpin' Do you think the MPT has a higher grind also? I suspect the MPT to be a sofisticated improved SCF edgewize and little compromize in extra length carry. I don't own a chads serrated version. How do they compare to the spyderco serrations. They look simular but wider.

I just seem to see some reprofiling on the SCF in your picks . Did you slim the cutting edge?

Waiting the availability of the HYPER.

Greats Maarten

recommands on the polishin Brian

Start with paper at 200 if badly scratched and don't get higher than 600 grit unless you want a miror polish. On EDC's i think a mirror polish will show more scratches. I know from experience with my D4W . Freehandin' use a thick wooden paint stirrer or another full flat piece of wood or cork if the blade is swetched if swetched badly strip a part of hard rubber from some old shoes or other things and use it as a sandin'block.

Change the angle of grinding with every change of grit. Do this so that you end up at 600 with a horizontol to the bladewize grind.
Just some thoughts which may help you.

:D

Thanks for the response. I got the smae impression handling them at a local gun shop. This is what I needed to see! thanks again!

thanks for the polishing tips Maarten....whoaa I'll try to answer your tough questions one at a time! ;)

"Do you think the MPT outperforms the SCF by the reason of the thicker blade of the last one ?"

Not sure what your criteria for "outperforms" is exactly, but if you mean slicing ability recurve *has the edge* over the leaf shaped SCF.... and the "tanto" tip is great for thrusting it into car doors....
the overall thickness of the MPT's blade being slightly thinner with the high saber grind makes it easier to slice through media than the SCF...

"Do you think the MPT has a higher grind also?"

the SCF is wider (edge to spine) than the MPT at the tang....
I believe the SCF is full flat ground (my best guess) ... The MPT has what appears to be a saber flat grind... *I hope someone corrects me if i'm wrong as I'm not really sure*

"I just seem to see some reprofiling on the SCF in your picks . Did you slim the cutting edge?"

Yes, I've been trying to thin the edge freehand on a DMT diafold sharpener....more of a "hack job" though....I'm a terrible sharpener.... :o

"I don't own a chads serrated version. How do they compare to the spyderco serrations. They look simular but wider..."

yes , they are similar to the Spyderedges but just "bigger" / jumbo sized ....

And I prefer the sheath of the MPT over that of the SCF.... A+ on the MPT sheath ...

Holy Crippes Brian:eek::eek::eek::eek:
Don't let Chad hear this. LOL

Thanks for your enlightment in this matter

Now i wish Chad could bring out a Wharncliff MPT with a full flat grind . Bladeshape kind of Ronin Yo' ish. Or a Wharcom Fixed

You can always send your SCF to mr. Tom Krein for a full flat Grind if the reprofiling doesn't come out right ;).
