Mr. Emerson- Where is the Canis?

This has been asked about numerous times.(On another forum) Mr. Emerson has not publicly addressed this issue.(He may be avoiding the issue) But, unless there is some sort of conformation that the project is still a go from the man himself I would say it is dead in the water. The Canis design had input from Kelly McCann. As to how much is a matter of speculation. I came across some random information from a person in the know which leads me to believe that the Canis(with Emerson at least) will never see the light of day.

I had heard this, too - but, I recently emailed Emerson and asked......I was told that it is still in the works, but no date coud be given. Perhaps it will coincide with the opening of Kelly McCann's new civilian training facility.......

I do hope so. I really dig the design. I am hoping that whatever the issues between Mr. Emerson and McCann have been worked out. If it ever goes through this could be one of Emersons best sellers, ever...

I was fortunate enough to have been selected by Kelly McCann to attend the beta course for his new Civilian Training Center. While I am not at liberty to reveal too much at this time about the CTC as it is Kelly's operation, I can confirm that the Canis project was still a go as of October when I was there. I got to see Kelly's personal Canis and he indicated to us that the production models were expected relatively soon. It has been my experience that projects like these fall prey to all kinds of technical delays that cannot always be predicted. The Spyderco Yojimbo 2 project being a recent example that comes to mind. The Canis is a sweet knife and Kelly is in communication with Mr. Emerson so I have every confidence we will see the end product. I just cannot speculate when that might be. I hope it is soon!

It also looks like Emerson is doing a major design change to all models - stand-offs instead of the current back spacer. This may be contributing to holding some things up, but the change looks to be awesome!

If this is indeed the case then it is very welcome news.

Is this on all models, and is it definitely happening? I thought it was just a "maybe" that was only on a Mini-Commander so far? I hope this isn't the future, as I much prefer the micarta backspacer to standoffs, especially the standoffs that EKI posted a photo of recently... too narrow, making the whole knife look fragile by comparison.

Last I heard it was to be all models, and was probably happening. We'll have to wait and see.....

I hope it dosn't, I much much much more prefer the backspacer.

Too many other companies are going to the standoffs. and they seem to fall apart alot more to me.

Let the solid spacer buying frenzy begin!
