Hiya,

I was fortunate to have won last week RickHuf RickHuf 's drawing for the Box of knives. That happened over here: https://www.bladeforums.com/threads/mr-knives-neverending-giveaway-70.1939309

I will show you what I received, the changes I made, and what I will be sending out. But first,

The Rules:
• Be a member of the Porch (minimum 50 posts to the this ("Traditional") forum.
• Post "I'm In" followed by any noun in any language. No punctuation should come between "I'm in" and your choice of noun.
• Paying members of BF only.

If You Win The Box:
• When you receive the box, take any number of knives and replace them with knives of equivalent (or greater) value.
• Then, hold your own GAW to keep this fun Porch tradition going. Take and post photos!!!
• Post a link to your new GAW thread in this thread.
• Pick a new winner and mail them the box.

I am automatically including those who were in the last drawing. That said, here are the current entrants:

1) Ernie1980 Ernie1980
(2) CVamberbonehead CVamberbonehead
(3) G gentleman_edc
(4) joeradza joeradza
(5) seas165 seas165
(6) Wild Willie Wild Willie
(7) Nonless Nonless
(8) TheJon TheJon

I want to get this done swiftly, so let’s say I will do the drawing this Sunday morning, with the intent to get it in Monday’s mail.

Now here's what happened:
When I received the box, its contents looked something like this:

When considering my additions to the box, I wanted to try to keep the level of quality high, and also keep the contents interesting. I hope I achieved that.

I took:
  • The Case Peanut. It came in a box that said “mother of pearl” but I am pretty sure it’s not MOP.
  • The Schrade Rope Knife
  • The Bear & son micro-razor
  • The Lionsteel
  • The Camillus stockman
  • This odd fixed blade made by a Canadian outfit I’ve never heard of, Grohmann. I am thoroughly intrigued by the shape.
I put in:
  • GEC (Northfield) 12 in stag. People seem to like these GECs
  • A French Cognet friction folder made out of some type of horn, IIRC.
  • Another friction folder - this one made by BPS, a Ukrainian knife-maker well discussed here.
  • A Wright & Son Barlow in Buffalo horn. This has one stout pull.
  • A green-boned Case Trapper. It has served me well.
  • In carbon steel, a Case Coke Bottle knife (or is this a “swell center jack?”)
  • My old Western stockman.
  • My favorite bugout bag knife. This is not the vanilla Morakniv Companion. This is the higher-end Spark model that’s got the fire starter in the handle.

So: here's what's getting sent out:

Or, to better see it, here we are in thematic clusters

Here’s the American-made classics cluster:

5 Cases, 1 GEC, a Buck or two.

And the imported American classics

Not pictured in close-up are the two knock-offs (the Japanese Mercator and the Chinese Otto Messer) and the two fixed blades.

I want to point out one other thing: there was one non-knife thing in the box as I received it.
But that will go in the next message as I have reached my image count.

In the box also was this watch, with a note that it was a non-knife-related gift to me. In a PM, Rick explained that this was an antique pocket watch that was busted up and he restored and repaired it. So so cool! I am wracking my brain to figure out if I have anything cool to send to the next recipient. And I will think of something, but let’s be honest here, it will not be as cool as Rick’s watch!

Stop the presses! It turns out there is one more knife that will be going out! It was hiding from me....
It is another Lionsteel. Similar to the Beerlow, but I don't think it's really appropriate to call it that since it isn't a barlow.
Here it is!

It will be sent to the next winner!

I'm in beer. (ok I'm already in, but ...)

The Lionsteel 2blade Jack is a neat knife *one of my most carried.
I have always wanted to see a Grohman Canadian knife. Neat.

The box is looking really good, and I appreciate your photos. They highlight the variety.

Am I to understand that this has been rolling for 8 years now? If so, "very cool" may be an understatement.

yes originally meant as a traveling library of take a knife pass a knife, in the sense that there maybe a pattern you were curious to try. Im glad to see it has continued and expanded quite a bit. I think at one point it even split boxes.

I'd have gone through life without ever looking at a victorinox, but man it's nice.

It was really fun to see all of the various knives and patterns. Great idea! I can't believe it's been floating around for 8 years.

It would be neat to know all of the places it's been.

yes especially in the sense that each stop is recorded, so if you were curious, you can go in the search and see the tally of winners and recipients

Well, I said I'd do the drawing Suinday morning, but that did not happen. So I'll do it in a few hours for Monday dispatch.
So, consider this sort of last call-ish!

Congratulations TheJon TheJon

That is a very cool old pocket watch. I've been looking for one myself, to actually use. I cant stand wearing a wrist watch, but when I'm fishing I dont want to whip out the Iphone to see the time... a pocket watch seems like it'd fit though. Thats an awesome addition, congratulations on that one Side O'Beef Side O'Beef
