I have seen lots of MEFO's for sale and maby one MOFO if that. Everyone says that the MEFO's are the rare ones as only a few were mismarked. I am begining to think that the MOFO with the correct markings may actually be the rare one. Out of the 60-64 made how many were actually mismarked. Judging from sales on this site I would have to guess that the majority of the knives produced and shipped were mismarked, which would then lead me to question the quality control on that particular knife run. If someone is hand finishing and inspecting for defects how do they not notice the miss marking on not 1 or 2 but at least a 6th of the production run based on individual sales here in the last 2 months? I am not putting Busse down, but as someone who is interested in eventually buying 1 or 2 of these knives, I would like to know the real numbers and not just what the owners are claiming.

I have seen mostly MEfo's selling lately and I have a Mefo as well, however, that does not mean that there are more, just the ones selling are mefo's. As to how many were made, I don't know.

As for quality control and defects, there is a big difference between missing a letter on a logo and missing a void within a steel or messing up the heat treat. The logo's are just icing on the cake IMO and It really does not matter much to me and I think most users have the same idea. As for the quality of production, there is no question there...

i know where some of them went :D

If you don't mind saying how many of those are correctly stamped Mr. MOFOs, and what is the highest and lowest number of correct ones?

Also I see a bunch that aren't numbered, are they Uncle Mofo's?

The Mr's have the blade catches
The Uncles dont have them
The numbered are satin finished LE's
The non numbered were the production run in Double Cut BB

As far as the MoFo/MeFo goes, they add nothing to the value for me, I could care less one way or the other. And I woulnt call it a QC issue, have you seen how small that lettering is??? And iirc that isnt an e, I remember a lot of talk on that when they first came out, seems the process for a particular section on that run that etches the blade came out a little off in that one spot making the e look alike.

Production numbers only Jerry knows, and he's pretty tight lipped on most of that stuff.

Mefo - Mofo, doesn't matter, just like serial numbers, the knife is the same either way, just buy one, you'll be happy! :D

Leatherman,
Thanks for clearing up the difference between them, and also what caused it. I would agree that it shouldn't affect the price, yet in almost every sale thread it is described as the "rare" MEFO thus commanding more money. I am just trying to see if this is justified, from what I have seen in the sales forum the miss stamp is more prodominent than the correct one. As far as production numbers, here is Jerrys' thread on these knives.

Thanks again for explaining the difference between the knives.

Edit because Randucci snuck a post in while I was typing this one.
I will eventually, probably 2. I don't want to pay a premium on a fictious rairity though. The MEFOs' sellers say they are more scarce than the MOFO's. I am trying to determine if this is really true.

You know, this is the type of picture that will eventually give somebody here a heart attack.:D I know nobody will admit it, but I am sure something like this has already made someone pee in their pants.:D :D

This forum tends to warp the apparent numbers of certain short run Busse's and Swamp Rats because this is the "Hub" for the Busse collectors. We're all here and epray.

Plus, Say, one fella sells his MoFo (MeFo, I hate that name  ) on the forums for "said amount". Another fella says to himself "I had no idea they would go for THAT much!" And off he goes to the Exchange, and so on and so fourth.... This happened with the Heavy Hearts in a big way, and the SRK Bog Dogs. So it gives a false impression of the actuall numbers. I had thoughts of selling my Badger after seeing the numbers coming in on those, and its my favorite knife!

So, its rather difficult to judge rarity by the forums and exchange, we're packed in here like sardines. ;)

:o

I do not think that Mefo or Mofo adds anything to the value of it. Being an LE obviously does. So if you get a Mefo or Mofo the price will likely be the same.
