Today was a good day. :) :D

UPS brought me my new Sage (5 weight) fly rod. It will be coupled to my Orvis reel (that I have had for two years now) and next weekend my Brother and I will hit the North fork of the Coeur D' Alene river. Many a Brook trout are to meet some nymphs, perry winkles, and maybe a grass hopper or two. Now depending on how far up river you go, the North fork is catch and release. However there is still some waters that you can keep a few (not sure how many) Two from lower waters will be kept for dinner to be sure.

Here are my summer knives that I can't wait to give a try.

L6 steel Nessy, and my new Case Saddlehorn barn board.

I can't wait to hit the water. Let ya'll know how it goes with pics.

Oh, man! Does that sound like pure pleasure. Gee, think you can handle all that ugly country? :D

There used to be a fishing show called, "Fly fishing the World With John Barrett." He would always comment that trout don't live in ugly country!

Some of the best Rainbows I ever ate were fresh caught up in Alaska. My son and I would zip them open, run a thumb along to gut 'em, a quick rinse, then toss in a little butter and seasoning. From there they went whole onto a grill over a bed of coals. Not much time later and we were digging in with our fingers and eating well. I sure miss living in trout and salmon country. I keep telling my wife that when she gets her teaching degree we'll move to Alaska and she can teach and I'll focus on getting the food. :D I miss AK a lot some days.

Have a great time and definitely show some pics.

Some people live to work.
Others work to live.
I live and work to go fly fishing ....

Have a great trip!

I have a feeling you are like playing golf with a PGA pro..... after about hole # 10 you feel like a broken record "nice shot". Well.... nice Ingram ya got there Schwert;)

The Nessy.... here ya go:

You must be a fellow fly-fisherman ehh....... only way to fish IMHO:cool:

Let's just say were could play a full round of golf and I would only have to repeat an Ingram maybe once:D

Flyfishing is the way to go. I am hopelessly out-of-date on high tech rods but can cast a decent fly.

Those stimulators were tied for the Clearwater, Lochsa and Selway quite a few years ago. Spent a week at Three Rivers with some college mates and just had a blast on cutts.

I have not been out for steelhead for the past few years around here. We have had some huge declines in runs.

I bought this to be prepared though....

I cast a Winston rod last year that I really liked. I am still using a rod I built from a Fisher blank when I was in college. Very early graphite. The Winston was like music in comparison to my rod.

I've been chucking a Fenwick, and a Eagle Claw my Great Uncle gave me (who along with my Pop taught me how to fly fish) since I was 10. The Sage I just bought is like casting silk into the finest hole you have ever seen.

None the less..... it's the experience that counts..... not the gear. You tie a good fly from the pics you shared. Fly fishing is something else..... takes some work, but I am truly hooked. ;) :D

The next time I get to the west coast..... I'll let ya know. I'll buy the beer and listen:D

You should try it out first. I've always believed an Orvis reel would cause a Sage rod to go limp, but it may be only a rumor. Maybe that's how they get me to buy more Orvis rods.:D Regards and good fishing, ss.

A friend at work used a Sage rod and orvis reel. I was fortunate enough to borrow it last year, and fell in love on the spot. Took me all winter to save the $$$.... but will be worth it. Last rod I will buy, and hopefully will pass it down to a Grandson or Daughter:D

I bought my last fly rod (an Orvis) about eight rods ago. You may have more self- control than I, but don't be surprised if you fall victim to needing "just one more" for certain "technical water conditions". It's easy to justify a "need" for yet another. My friend has six identical Ross G2 reels because he "needs" a backup for the backup, one for a different line weight, why pay for a spool when the whole reel only costs only twice as much... Don't forget you need a small fly fishing knife for your vest to pick knots, trim hackle, cut yarn, and slice sausage (maybe a couple ?) :D Regards, ss.

I hear ya.;) I have two reels in total for different line weights. For the most part around here a 5 weight rod (my Fenwick, and my new Sage) and a 4 weight will do for most of the waters I fish anyway.

I have never spent a dime on rods until now. My previous two were given to me. Sooooooo $600 bucks on a fly rod was a stretch, but as mentioned, well worth it. :)

Let us know when you buy a small SAK with scissors, toothpick (for wind knots), pen blade, and tweezers to clip on a retractor. :) Regards, ss.

PS: Washington also has salmon (10wt), steelhead (8wt), small brushy streams (7' 3wt), and lots of wind (quick 8'6" 6wt). See? You aren't even halfway!:D
