Mrs. Santa shocked me with a Nyala!

I must have been a good old codger this year... my wife shocked me with a CRK Nyala! I really was dumbfounded. She and Randy, my favorite knife shop (... and - it's local!) salesman, ordered one - and the conspiracy worked - it arrived in time to go under the back of the tree! This thing is fresh, too... dated Dec 2, 2010. I hate stale knives! (Who am I kidding? They are all good!)

The white box has the CRK, Blade 2000-2001 & 2009-2010 labels, and an end flap label with 'Nyala' on it - otherwise, no indication anywhere as to model, etc. The knife has the CRK imprint on the exposed tang near the lanyard, otherwise, it is barren of markings. The Micarta handles are quite well done - fit & finish is great. Ergonomically, it is my new favorite 'bushcraft' candidate. Great hand fit, too. I am exceedingly proud of this knife - Mrs. Santa shocked me with this.

Merry Christmas... and what did Mr./Mrs. Santa bring you?

Congrats man. I'll have to try one of these one day.
Mrs. Clause brought me a large micarta Sebenza and a ESEE-4.

I absolutely love my Nyala - carry it as much as possible.

It's the perfect blend of size, balance and finish.

Very utilitarian blade.

BTW - Mrs. Santa usually lets me get my own Xmas gift - I'm very picky. It was a Strider SmF GG.

Congrats. I love mine. It'd be in my personal "top five knives of 2010" list.

Mrs. Santa shocked me with the Nyala - I thought they were 'out' of them until next year. She had also snuck a Benchmade 171 Chopper into the house - and a BM 525 & 15030-2. Christmas was great! Assuming we were going to obey our self-imposed 'No Presents!' edict, I had bought some new 'closeout' BM specials locally over the preceding month or two - a 520, 5000, and 9555BK - total - with s/t - less than the cost of a small Sebbie. It's been one heck of a fall - and a great Christmas.

Anyone carry their Nyala as a 'pocket' carry in their cargo pants, etc??

I pocket carry mine in my FL pocket of either shorts or jeans.

The only advice I have is to watch out for the lanyard. I left the long stock lanyard on the knife because I like it - but it catches things like knobs on kitchen drawers when you walk by them.

I find the weight and size to be very comfortable for in pocket carry.

If it's on the belt it all but disappears.

I have been very impressed with my Nyala. CRK did a great job on that knife, no two ways.

Congrats on the nice new knife. :)

I picked my self up a RMJ Shrike this year. :D

The guy who ordered the Nyala had promised it to me at $200... I just saw her receipt - he charged her $239.95 + s/t - the CRK list is $230. And... that's after his promise to give her my 'special' price! I bought my Wilson Combat 'zaan for $429.95 from Wilson - shipped - less than his bare 'zaan price of $449.95 + s/t. His small Sebbie is $369.95 - CRK list is $330. I can understand fixing the sale price as their MSRP, but shouldn't there be a 'cap' at that point, too?

My wife offered me the receipt for my records - I shouldn't have looked. It was a gift. Yeah, $43.60 is important to me! It's more the point, I suppose. Love the knife - and I would pay that amount for it... just not so happily after being offered it for less!

PS I should get his explanation before feeling 'slighted'. I did get great bargains on BM's and Bokers there over the last few months. I guess it all balances out...

 Always best to ask first, but certainly not a promising set of facts.

I've seen a lot of retailers that charge well above CRK retail pricing -- as much as 20%. Having said that, I'd go back to the dealer and refresh his memory on your agreement. Hopefully it's just a case of forgotten commitment.

I decided to wait a week - try their January closeout sales. I really like the Nyala.

Here it is with the BM goodies I also got for Christmas:

That 171 Chopper is a moose. The 525 mini Presidio and walnut 15030-2 mini Bone Collector were really good deals - and wanted. That Chopper... I don't know... it's so big...

The Nyala is my favorite!

Happy New Year!

Still love it - it's actually a bargain for a CRK. I wonder about the S35VN - it has the same Rc of 58-59 as my S30V 'zaan. I know there is more to edge longevity than Rc, but how is the new steel better??
