Hi Guys,
Just finished this up tonight. Its another version of my MSC (Military, Survival, Camp) model. I call this one the Alpha, cause its definately the leader of the MSC pack. This was a special order for our good friend and forum member Dr. Bill . He's taking this knife hog hunting next week, so I really had to get the lead out on this one!

Here's the specs:
8" spearpoint blade of differentially heat treated O-1 tool steel
Triple tempered to ~Rc 58
Integral guard
Beveled finger choil
Thumb notches
Sculpted Green Micarta grips
Solid 3/8" brass handle pins
Skull crusher and lanyard hole with lanyard

Go get 'em Doc! We want pics of the hunt too please!
Thanks for looking.
Scott

p.s. Can anyone tell me why the hell my pics look so good on my computer, then I upload them and they look distorted and grainy??? Also, Is there another way to edit picture size without changing the pixel count? I use Jasc for photo editing. Email or pm is fine on the pic info. Thanks

What hog wouldn't run from that? Wrap some bacon around it. Nice job! You got that knife makers spirit and it shows in you and your work. Keep it up.

That is easily my favorite of your designs. I love big, meaty knives, and this one certainly fits that description. Great looking knife.

Another sample of your new stuff coming out for this year. Looks like your making some big strides.

Great Knife Scott. I do like the big blades.

Not to highjack your thread Scott but I sure would like the anwser to this too. :(

Wow! Who needs a gun with a knife like that?

By "change the picture size" do you mean change the size of the file or change the visual size? To change the file size, use a lower JPEG compression (although the image is already showing some severe JPEG artifacts). To change the visual size, you have to change the number of pixels.

You can get better JPEG compression by choosing a simpler background. It's trying real hard to get the fabric correct at the expense of details in the knife.

Thanks for the support guys. I hope Doc is pleased with the knife too.

On to the pictures....BF Limits picture size to 100k. I use a camera with 5 mega pixels so I have to reduce them alot. The pictures are physically very large to start with. I crop them as close as I can, then I keep reducing the pixels until it fits the 100k criteria. The problem is I totally lose picture quality in the process. I was wondering if there was a way to make the pic smaller, keep the quality, and still fall under the 100k limit. One forum member suggested I use an image hosting webpage and paste the link. I'll try that next time.

Ya, what Scott said:thumbup:
I see guys post these HUGE super detailed pictures. and they show up HUGE in the post. It seems no matter what I do I end up with just a small picture in my post. You can click on it and make it bigger but it's still not as big as theirs.

I guess this is probably the wrong place to discuss this so if you want to take it offline, you can email me at empty5853@yahoo.com

I would appreciate any help, TIA.

I started the thread and I don't mind! I'd love to get some answers, here or in private. If you're in the know, please let us know!
Thanks,
Scott

try setting the DPI (dots per inch) from a higher resolutions (likely 300 dpi and greater with a good camera) to 72 DPI. 72 DPI is the native resolution for video monitors and will give you a "what you see is what you get" for size and quality.

add more DPI if you want to print your images, remove DPI if you want to trim for web :-)

hope this helps.

and great work man! very impressed

If you send me the full-resolution image, I could run some experiments for you, maybe throw together a quick tutorial on how to produce good pictures for BF.

Most digital cameras have a "jpeg' setting. The one on Sony cameras will let you post it straight up on here, but not on KN.....too wide, I think.

Being that it's a pig huntin blade, I can assume it would be apropos to say, Dayum!! Nice work Scott. The improvement curve in your work has gotten steeper this year hasn't it?
