Just saw this knife on TAD's site:

http://www.tripleaughtdesign.com/6_5_tan.htm

What an interesting grind. The glare from the plastic vacuum wrap confuses the image, but it looks like the blade has a triple beveled edge or something to that degree. Whatever it is, it looks very cool and very efficient. TAD states, "modified spearpoint."

TAD also states that this knife is currently being issued to Army Special Forces in Afghanistan. Can anyone provide more info/background on this knife? Mick?

Thanks

I can tell you what the prices are as Josh gave them to me.

750.00 for 7.5 and 650.00 for 6.5

That is a direct quote from an email he sent last night. I was definately thinking hard about it, but alas, no.

As an afterthought, I noticed that these knives are going for $100/inch.

The blade has my standard grind.
The weirdness you see is a coating on the cutting edge to keep it safe during shipment.

Talk to you soon

Jeez...I thought those grind angles were a bit too abstract! If it was what I thought it was, the tip would be way too fragile now that I think of it. Thanks for the clarification.

I'm curious... Which is more practical/popular with the troops - The 6.5 or 7.5 blade. Is there a difference in handle size as well?

There is a small difference in the handle.
Really there is no preference. It used to be for the 6.5. A lot of people are moving to larger knives though.
I'm working on some with 10" blades now.

Mick

When you say, "they," do you mean troops? And also is the move to the 7.5 one that is generated by a field-realized benefit of the inch larger blade?

I'm just curious as to the reasons that prompted the move. 10" seems a bit excessive for a personal utility/war knife for my tastes - but then I've never handled one.

Hey guy,
When you only LOOK at the MSC 7.5 it might lead you to believe it to be a bit large/unwieldly..I received 4 of these after the Edged Weapons Seminar and already had the Ajax. When you actually handle these puppies they move really well in the hand. Although not the physical size of the EB series or even the BT/MT/etc...they are remarkably light and quick. You'd love it. ;)
Let me know if you need anything else and take care.
Joe

Hey Joe! How've things been in your neck of the woods? Those DO look pretty sweet... But then they ARE <i>customs</i>.

Are you saying that the MSC 6.5 and 7.5 are <i>larger</i> than BT/MT type knives but not quite as beefy? I'm having a tough time picturing them as I haven't ever held or personally seen a strider yet. Could you elaborate a bit? Sorry if this is actually a silly or redundant question.

Ahhh... What with all the wedding plans - registry stuff, invitations, cake choices, etc... It's so good to come here and think about "guy stuff." :D

Okay guy, just for you I went out to the safe to do a little research. Not being REAL specific, no whiners now, the MSC in 7.5" looks to be a couple (yes, that would be two) of inches longer overall than the WB/MH/and BT that I have here in front of me. Also, if you were to place the WB and BT in a side view w/edge down they would be about 1/2" shorter than the MSC 7.5. Given the design of the MH (Bowie Style?)the differences in height are not as substantial, however there is still a difference in overall mass.

I hope that this helps and I'm going to put these up before my wife thinks I'm going out hunting!

Hope the wedding plans are going well...all the best to you and your lady.;)

Joe

Thanks Joe!

And the wedding plans are going well. I just make a point of reminding her on a daily basis of how lucky she is.

I think she just smiles and nods for my benefit and saves the skeptical looks for once I leave the room. I may have caught her once, but she recovered too quickly for me to be certain.:D
