MSR Dromedary bag?

I'm in need of a way to carry water, and thought that the MSR 6L dromedary bag was perfect...until i read two different reviews (out of many good ones) that claimed they leached into the water. If so, that is a huge turn-off for me. I don't want to carry any bottles, and loved this MSR bag until the couple reviews spoiled it. Anybody have experience with these bags, or have any recomendations?

I've used one for several years now and have never had any problems with it. As far as leaching, I've never done any kind of testing of the water after it's been in the bag, but the water has never had a "off" taste.

I say buy one and don't look back. They are tough as nails and are a good design.

I used them on a month long NOLS course out in Wyoming. They are indeed tough and I never noticed any strange taste. I'd say go for it.

I have a 4l that makes the water taste nasty. It is fine to cook with, but sucks to drink. It is OK if the water doesn't sit in it for more than an hour or two. After that it is no fun.

Irregardless, get one, and the shower valve. Take the hose off the shower valve, and you have a handy bit of water storage. The strap lets you hang it on a branch or similiar, and the valve means you can turn on a trickle to wash your hands.

If you put the shower hose on the valve, you can get a nice little shower stream for 2 minutes on a 4l bag, I would assume 3 min on the 6l.

Ive got the 2.5 liter one and been using it for a couple of years now. Ive got nothing but praise for it so ive got no hesitation recommending it.
Go for it, youll be happy you did.

I have a 2 liter one that is about 13 years old. It does leave a funky taste to the water (maybe the newer ones have fixed this?). I still use it for wash water because of the handy spout, but I drink from Platypus bladders instead.

Ok, that's enough for me to NOT get the msr bag. I plan on ONLY using it for drinking water, and leeching i will not tolerate.
Does platypus make a bag bigger than 2L, and without a hose?

Some of my Platypi are also 13 years old, and are still going strong. I would go with Platypus.

I have an MSR 4l and never had any problem with it. I do clean them out when I first get them using filtered water and bi carb left to soak for 24 hours (actually shaken a couple of times in that period). That includes all water bladders, not just MSR.

As MSR and Platypus are owned by the same company I doubt there'd be much difference between the two.

No problems here with the 6L Dromedary or 4L Dromlite. The 2L Platypus is good too, just not nearly as tough as the Dromedary.

The Platypus water tank has a "zip top" opening so it's probably fine for hand carry but I wouldn't trust it in a backpack.

I have the MSR dromedary 6 and 4. No bad taste, no odor, no real complaints. I do like the way my water filter outlet fits the large cap on the bags, nice touch.

I wanted to mention too, that the bags are awesome for groups.

Hook up the bag to a water filter, and one person can filter water for the group without carrying a bunch of bottles. No messing around when perched on a log, just drop your filter in and go. It also lets you do a lot more if you camp farther from water, since it is so easy to bring plenty. You can wash hands and pots, have cooking water, etc. When you run out, 1 person making 1 trip can bring plenty back in.

I've owned over 8 of the big MSR bags and have never had issues with any leaching. They are tough sonofahoohaa water bags that simply dont leak unless you knife em!

top notch company too, i tore one of my bags inside a pack when my camp stove burner edge sliced the bag, emailed MSR and asked for a patch. they sent me a brand new bag!
