I can get either for the $100 range, and am making my trip this week...

1> although I have access to a 204 at Cutting Edge, it's a hassle to bike down to sharpen a knife and bike home(15-20minute bike).

2> no small fixed blade(all 4"+), or neckknives yet, and the medallion looks nice.

Whichever one I don't get now will have to wait till january or so... buying a C52 Calypso jr lightweight next. only able to put aside 120/month.

I have a 204 (and use it for way more than I'd expect; it's really handy to have the ceramic around. Just today, used it to sharpen a knife, the scissors on my micra, and my Mach 3) and I'm really looking hard at the Microtech.

I'd get the 204. It's the best sharpening system out there, and a folder'll do until you can get the microtech. I know you've already got access to a 204, but if I remember correctly, you've posted a couple of times in this vein (Sharpmaker vs. Whatever).

So just go ahead and get the 204. It's worth it.

(Oh, and DEFINITELY get the Calypso. I'm about to try to procure me a second one.)

Obviously you need both eventually. I guess it depends on which you need the most first. The 204 is a must have. There will always be another knife that you want.

Buy the knife...The bike-ride to use that Sharpmaker is good exercise.:D.

Seriously, buy the Sharpmaker 204. Sharpening and re-sharpening all your knives on a cold, wet, Canadian Winter day will give you something to do.:).

Buy the 204, it is a great sharpener, and you'll get tons of use out of it. Although I can sharpen knives free hand fairly well, I still prefer the simplicity of the 204. All my knives carry scary sharp edges because of the 204, it is just so simple, there is no excuse for a dull (to us knife nuts, it would be a razor to layman)knife

I'd say get the Sharpmaker that you can use it the knives you already have you are going to need one anyway it's a lot handier the jumping on your bike.
