Now that I have two Natives and 3 Calypso Jrs in my grubby, little hands, I'm itching for something more expensive. I'm looking at the MT Mini Socom Elite, the Al Mar Sere 2k, and the BM 710 series.

Could someone maybe post a *visual* comparison of these knives?

Thanks

BM 710 and the S2k are competitive; both are absolutely top notch tools, great steel (VG10 or the 710 in M2), and truly useful blade geometry & shape. I prefer the Al Mar, but only because it fits my hand better.

The Mini Socom is a nice knife, but considerably smaller than the other two. MT quality is first rate, but the Mini is a bit more narrowly focused "tactical" than the BM or S2k and arguably less utilitarian. 154CM is good, but for my requirements it's not quite as good as VG10 or M2.

Look hard at the S2k, 701HS, and I'd add the Spyderco Military for the best of large production folders.

I should mention the BM 806D2 also, although I prefer the 710.

This is what I would do, and I think you should try. Get them all and decide which one you like best. Then I think you'll be three times as happy :D

we have the sere2000 and the mini socom in our house-i do not have the skills to post pictures yet-but the analogy that comes to mind is 2 framing hammers(sere and 710) and finish hammer(mini socom), the mini socom is a great knife, but as a tool not in the same ballpark with sere and 710- i really like my sere 2000-probably the most knife i have purchased for the money-a real chunk:)

Dont let the blade length on the Mini Socom Elite fool you, they call it mini for a reason.

The SERE is a full sized knife and one of the better examples of a production liner lock.

I'd get the 710, since for tactical style knives i think i am done purchasing liner locks.

The mini-SOCOM is an entirely different beast than either the 710 or SERE. Full size folders vs. small folder IMO. I purchased my SOCOM as a SMALL alternative carry to my Sebenza and BM 730CFHS. Both of these knives are already smaller than the 710 or SERE.
