hi guys!

does anybody know if there' s a Microtech Socom Elite tanto version planned in s90v steel?

what' the difference between the normal versions and the tactical versions of the socom elite?

greetings + thanks,

G_Man

The S90V models were clip point only, but you never know with MT.

The black tactical models have all-black hardware: screws, glass breaker, everything. This is as opposed to the just the "black" models which are all-black except the hardware.

I just got a socom elite in the mail yesterday. It's an urban camo in d2, but this knife is very, very impressive. It seems to give me the impression of a "folding fixed blade" like no other knife I have owned. The blade is thicker than most other knives and very sharp. The handle is well designed and very secure. As for the tanto versions, I know they have a chisel ground varriant, but think they are all d2.

thanks so far for the answers

is the bladefinish (claw or something like that) of the tactical versions different to the normal socom elites?

greetings + thanks,

G

I haven't seen a claw logo on a full sized elite. I do have a claw logo on my mini socom elite though (2004). The mini is one of my all time favorite carry knives. I only wish the full sized ones were also a frame lock.

The claw logo is the standard blade decoration for a socom But I've seen alot without it. If you find one with the dagger logo on it snatch it up. It means Marfione has put that knife together. The tactical most likely has to do with the handle inserts or lack there of and or the hardware color, or possibley the blade coating.

I have a socom elite tanto in D-2. I wonder why they don't have mini socom with window breaker. I'm sure I would buy it if they have one.

last question in general:

what is the advantage of a chisel tanto blade to the normal tanto version?

greetings + thanks,

G :D

though i dont remember exactly what they signify the claw and dagger logos are not std on the socoms, or elites, it means a handground blade or limited edition/etc, go to microholics if ya wanna find out, anyway point being its not a std embellishment on the socoms.

as far as an advantage with the CG version vs the std version, probably none, the CG might be a little easier to sharpen.

Does anyone have any idea how many S90V tacticals were made?I'm assuming that it's a serial number to the left of the Microtech logo. Thanks.

BTW, no claw or dagger unless it's hidden. Joe

Mastiff,

I called Microtech last week and asked them about the SOCOM in S90V,
they said that they produces 200 knives in S90V and now they are back to D-2.

Thank you Ralph. I'm not that far from the 200 and the way I got it was luck pure and simple. There was a thread here ( Vassili's) . He mentioned where he got it and whithin 5 minutes I ordered the last of the stores allotment of 2. It was expensive but I sure like it. Being at the right place at the right time.

Blade forums is like that. I've learned a bunch here, and gotten good advice, for the most part, on companies, Steels, Over seas knives, etc. IOW, it's been expensive :') Joe

@ ralph.merlino:

did you mean that MT has produced 200 pieces of the SE with tanto blade in s90-v? or did you mean the SE with droppoint blade?

greetings,

G
