Hey everyone. I'm new here and I just bought a socom elite manual about a week ago online. On the second day of having it the funky looking proprietary pivot screw was moving with the blade when I opened and closed the knife which seemed really weird seeing as I just got it. Because of the screws that MT uses I couldn't tighten it up.. then a day or two ago the pivot screw fully fell out while I was using it. Lucky for me I didn't loose it so I just put a little bit of blue lock-tite on the threads and tried to tighten it as best I could using my fingers and the butt end of a cigarette lighter (I was desperate) the screw is not going anywere now but the pivot still spins with the blade... I called MT to ask what I should do, if i could buy a tool or anything and the lady told me I'd have to fill in the warranty info and send it in. I tried doing so and it turns out microtech doesnt ship to canada! how do you like that? So I called her back and she told me I'd have to try and get ahold of an american dealer and ship it to them so they can ship it to microtech, see whats wrong with it (they forgot some friggin lock-tite on the pivot. Doh!) then send it back to the dealer so the dealer can send it back to me (are you guys still with me?) now I just spent over 300 dollars on a pocket knife after shipping and local taxes (msrp is 270 ish) and I'm pretty upset, the knife itself is beautiful and my favourite knife right now but im not to happy with microtech as of right now. Any suggestions guys?
Much appreciated

I think you said it very well. "im not to happy with microtech ."

I have no suggestions as it's your favorite knife. But I would get rid of that sucker just as quickly as I could. I've never experienced a problem of any kind with my Spydercos. I've had probably 15 of them. I'm sorry about your problem. Sometimes you have to write it off. If the Customer Service is unable to work with you, then you might wish to look at a different manufacturer. Your Canada residence obviously makes things more difficult.

Thanks for the reply sonny! I finally found a company that makes a tool for the pivot hopefully it gets here soon!

Every company goofs up now and then. And the sad fact is that not all American companies will ship to Canada, especially when their bread and butter is something that can't go through customs (auto knives). I would think they might make an exception for warranty work but I guess not. I am also a recent Socom Elite owner and it too is one of my favorite knives. Of course mine is an older model that uses hex screws. I started with Microtech otfs and have yet to be disappointed by any of their knives that I've owned. It sucks that you had this experience but stick with the knife. The more you use it, the more you will like it.

Did you lube the pivot point before using it? A very small squirt of Breakfree CLP will reduce any friction on most automatics.

Yes I did lube it gator but its the lack of locktight that was the problem. Finally got the bit to fix it but I need 2 because there is nothing to secure the otherside of the pivot from spinning when I try to tighten the loose pivot... fml

Kind of stinks but hang in there as the SOCOM Elite is an extremely well made, high quality knife. The proprietary screws on the other hand while "looking cool" suck for all of us. The F&F, smoothness and lockup on these are 2nd to none.

Blue Loctite is your friend here. If you tighten the pivot finger tight does the knife function ok? If there is no play and everything is fine when it's finger tight then 1 bit will do. Just take the screw out and put some of the blue Loctite on it. Tighten down as best you can and it won't come loose again. However if the centering is off or there is blade play when it's only finger tight thenyou will need another bit.

I agree retiredguns I love the knife and it was worth every penny but they should make the pivot like the delta. just a good ol torx
thanks bigfatts that what I had done after getting the first bit, finger tight with blue lock tight. the lock up was good centering was perfect no play what-so-ever but the problem lay in that whenever you open or closed the blade the pivot screw would still spin and after awhile I just had to buy the second bit. now the knife is perfect. thanks everyone for your help

You might want to get a tool for the handle screws also. Microtech doesn't seem to know about locktite.

yea I was thinking about it but each tool is 25 bucks and Id have to get one for the pocket clip too. so far ive had to spend 50 on tools for this knife and I really done want to spend another 50 If I dont have to
