Hi there. Sad day, I finally lost my socom elite AUTO that has been my EDC since 2001. Looking to replace it and see they released the socoms again last year which makes me happy. I love microtech and have never had any customer service issues. I have sent that socom in 5 times at least and each time they went above and beyond what I asked for. So what is was wondering is how is the select fire in comparison. Mainly handles and blade shape. I had a clip point and the socom handle fit me like a glove. I have no where local that I know to handle an SF but the handle looks skinny like the vectors, which is to small for me. I would be buying one based on your opinions as I want another auto. Otherwise a manual socom would be a no brainer. Anyone know if there is a plan to release the socom in auto again? Thanks for your help.

That is tough call. I love the Select Fires blade shape and cutting capabilities. You can really choke up on the knife and the choil is perfect if you work in reverse grip and need extreme control of the cutting edge. N the other side, you are very happy with the Socom. So to say that you will be able to adjust to the new style is not going to be a walk in the park. Im all about using the same tool every day over and over. Muscle memory is more than a simple exercise. It will save your life. So thatvin mind, if you try to switch from your tried and true edc, you need to really love the one that replaces it.
So yes I do recommend the Select Fire. I think the blade profile is incredible and it makes a great edc if you like strong wide blades with good grip geometry.
hope this helps, P

Ya if it ain't broke....I ordered a manual socom straight edge with the 20cv steel. Only thing I might regret is the black coating. Generally like stonewashed or bead blasted since those don't rub off over time. We;ll see. Thanks!
