I am considering buying a Microtech mini socom elite. can anyone give me some suggestions and info about this knife. I carry Emerson knives now, so the MT is going to take a little time to get used to since the kinfe is set up to be carried the opposite of the Emerson.

thanks for the info

I don´t know whether you will take the auto or the manual.

Anyway, check the action and for bladeplay. I had a VERY stiff manual, but fixed it after getting some wrenches. the microtech is a rather delicate knife in comparison to let´s say a CQC7 or something. Just make sure you get a satin or stonewash blade, for microtech´s coatings wear off rather quickly. Well not as quickly as Emerson´s:barf:

Al in all I would say A mini Socom Elite is a avery useful and handsome knife for EDC. I have two manuals which come wiht the clip tip-up und the autos are tip-down. The manuals carry a lot more covert than the autos.

Greetings,
I have both the manual and auto versions of this knife. I agree, go with the stonewash or satin blade. The black coating is easily scratched! Also if possible inspect the knife before you buy(Probably should do this with any knife brand). The manual I have doesn't quite seat well when closed. There's no tension to hold the blade in the handle. All the other MT's I've handled have this feature. Doesn't interfere with performance though. As for the automatic version, it's a solid piece. Also I've noticed that the blades on the mini SOCOM Elite hold an edge very well! I've had the manual since Dec '03 and haven't had to touch it up yet. Granted I've only cut boxes and the like with it.

I'd recomend the UMS also. Roughly the same size as the SOCOM, but has the S30v blade steel.

I have the auto version. I really like it. It is one of my most carried EDC's.
Slim, rides nice in the pocket, tip down. Good blade to handle ratio. Takes a nice edge.

All they said. If they made a fullsize, framelocking socom elite, i'd be among the first to order one.

All I can say is, god help you if you ever need any warranty work done on it!
Microtech's warranty & repair is by far THE WORST  you will EVER come across.
Plus the fact that crappy craftsmanship is making it out of their factory.

I really used to like them, but after sampling their latest knives.....& dealing with their aweful warranty department.....just do yourself a favor & stay far away.
