We just did this hike over the weekend in preparation of our Grand Canyon down and up in one day hike coming up in 2 weeks. This is Mt Wilson in Los Angeles elevation gain/loss of 6,800 ft. and it was about 55F. I nice day for hiking with tons of water sources since CA has been getting so much rain. Hope you enjoy the pics.

Awesome. Looks like a lot of water too since we've actually had rain thus year.

Interesting that they managed to keep the trail out of the fire. I used to spend a lot of time up there (20 years ago). It's still a great place one you get out of the city.

Baden Powell's a good prep hike too. San Gorgornio may actually be better though, more rocks, fewer trees.

Thanks all.

eisman- I love Gorgonio and hiked up and down a couple years back, it is on the list for training.

Please sir, if you may send me a PM with detailed directions to Mt.Wilson's trailhead etc, did you encounter any road closures? I'm asking because last time i tried going up angeles crest highway the road was closed, please get me back sir. I'm interested in doing a hike just like yours, was there any fish in the streams, also was there much fire damage?

Thanks everyone. I did a small part just to Studervant Falls with C Bryant about a year ago but this is the entire hike from Chantry Flat to Mt. Wilson then back down to finish the loop.

This is one of the best knife pics I've ever seen.

You just might have a future in photography.;)

When you posted the elevation gain I just about had a heart attack just reading it. Cool pics of the knife. What is it? What kind of load out do you take on this sort of hike?
