I'm broke but i still want a new knife. so I found Mtech i know their knives are cheap but i'm wondering about the quality. I'll probably buy an assassin any way just because it looks cool. So what are your feelings on Mtech knives?

They are cheap in price and quailty, but they are not the worse as there are other China imports that are really bad. Look at SMKW and check out the Boker magmun line ( model BK007) good buy for sure.....

The heat treat is horrible, the edge rolls very easily and the liner lock on them is terrible...it will close on your hand with hard usage. These are essentially disposable knives.

For a good, low cost knife, why don't you check out the byrd line?

I've played with my room mate's MTech liner lock with a 440 blade. Doesn't sharpen easily, but supposedly holds the edge well, so maybe the heat treat isn't so bad. But that liner lock is poorly done, easily fails the spine-whack test.

I bought an Mtech karambit out of curiosity , the design is not too bad and the materials are about the same , I assume regular 440 or worse on blade steel.
The linerlock on mine is not any worse than I have seen on more expensive knives of better brands. If they used better blade steel they might not be too bad of a throwaround knife.

Would I buy another ? no.... This was just out of curiosity.

Granted it was cheap at $8 , but for $12-$14 more why not follow Buck268's advice and go for a Byrd.

Speaking of Mtech though , thier ad in Blade gives me a good chuckle , isn't it " redefining tactical knives " or something similiar ? hehe.

If you go to eBay or FelineVet, you can get a used Swiss Army Knife for the same price or less (including postage) that will do you better than the Mtech, and be a high quality tool with a Lifetime Warranty.

You can get a used Spartan for $5. A Tinker is about the same or a little more. A bantam will probably shave a buck off the price.

I have a boker magnum and it is a great knife and i'll probably get those other knives too, but i'll also probably get the assassin because it looks cool and scary, but i wont use it at all just put it on display.
