Digging through a box, found a MTech MX-8130 Tanto. As I messed with it, I could feel/hear a rattle. Closer inspection the guard was more then a little loose between the rubber grip and the blade. How to tighten this?
If It were I that had made this knife, I might have used a screwed on pomel for ease of assembly. Clamped up the blade, used a brass rod in the lanyard hole in the pommel, and tried to give it a twist, no good. So I got out the heat gun assuming some "lock tight" etc. might have been used, and with just a little heat, it loosened and unscrewed!
Here are the pictures of the event:

Here is where the pommel startes to unscrew - see the gap...

Here is what the pommel and the threaded rod look like...

And as you can see the blade has a tapered tang, the rubber grip matches this shape (thus keeping it from rotating on the blade). A good pull, and off the grip came - no glue, etc.

So now I need to decide what to do next? re assemble or customize it... Hmmmmm

It's an MTech, do whatever you want to it. Consider it a practice knife for modding & messing around with because it'll never become anything reliable.

Probably work fine , just as self-defense knife , but I wouldn't trust for any hard use .

What is rattling, the guard or the handle ( because the pommel isn't pressing enough).
Both are relatively easy fixes.
