So a while back i found a CQC-7 for a great price over on JD...but it had some problems...

It was very rough to open

Sticky linerlock

Poorly finished scales and liners

Well ive finally got all of the problems out of the way, and this is by far my favorite emerson!

(Before)

Today i finished off the scales and made them even with the liners and polished the liners up.

The knife is buttery smooth to open and close.

The linerlock is smooth to disengage.

Anyway just thought i would share my joy with other emerson guys!

Have you ever had to refine one of yours to get it where you want it to be?

Good work!
I have never had a problem with any Emerson that I've acquired.

On one of my CQC-12's I had to sand the stop-pin a bunch to get it to the correct diameter to fit into the hole in the titanium side.
Pretty bad for a NIB knife of its price. With the pin the way it came, the knife had a pretty big gap between the washers and blade, which of course led to wiggle.
I had to sand the G-10 spacer as well, as it had a horrible look to it, and a "sandpapery" feel to it; it would work as a nail file...yay!
With the pin fitted properly, no wiggle, and no gaps.

Never had a problem with mine either.

Good job tweaking your 7. Great pictures as well.

:thumbup: thats a bit shocking for a knife that costs that much!

glad you got it to where it needed to be:thumbup:

Thanks man:)

Maybe i got a lemon:confused::)

I don't understand. So the knife came with the stop pin separate?

i pretty much dissasemble every new folder i get and clean/lube the action.

no different with the emersons. but the cleaning has had a more drastic effect on opening than on some other maker's knives.

the only thing that has ever really bothered me was the scale and liner mismatch. a few weeks ago i dremeled down all the scales to the same size as the liners. next i think ill polish the visible portion of the liners to clean up the grind marks.

On this one, since i got it as a user, dissasembly and some CRK grease didnt help all that much, there was like gunk that was dried in pivot area so i had to remove all of that and get it off the washers too, but now its all good!

Polishing the liners really makes it look alot better IMO...and its pretty easy to do:thumbup:

No, it just was too big a diameter to fit fully into the hole drilled for it in the titanium side.
This meant that it only fit in partially, which kept the scales apart more than they were intended to be, hence the gap and lateral wiggle.
Once the pin was able to seat properly, it was good to go.:)
