MUDD or 0200?

I had a 0200 and loved it, but I bought it when they was a little bit hard to find and jumped on a partially serrated. I sold it awhile back and I now sorta got a urge to get one in plain edge.
The MUDD is another I'm looking at and while I like the handle and blade shape a lot better on the 0200, I am really attracted to the lock on the MUDD.
Who knows all about it? It looks easy and smooth to operate, from the videos I've watched. I guess it would be very strong? Probably more than the 0200 even?

I would get both.... :D (if that's what you mean by the post)

Seriously, they're both that good. The Mudd is great for dirty (muddy) tasks, the blade opens great with gloves, and the lock is pretty cool. A few users like the Mudd the best out of the entire ZT line. The 0200 is great too--very awesome manual folder. It is giant. Both have same steel. My vote goes for the Mudd, but I guess that's because I already have an 0300.

Jill, I love both of those knives! The thing is, for me black coated blades only work on certain knives, such as the Black ENER-G II which is incredible. I usually prefer a more natural metal finish on my knives, preferably satin!:D Soooo, you could do what I did. Order up one of the limited knifeworks 0200's with the bead blast finish on the blade. Serial numbered, to boot!!

Easy question to answer. Both locks are stronger than they need to be. The liner of the 0200 is about 0.70, and in the 2 years or so I've beat on mine it hasn't given me any reason to think it isn't reliable. And I've beat on it hard. The 0500 has an incredibly strong lock. I don't know if you've seen the insides of one, but there are pictures floating around here somewhere. I've beat the snot out of that knife too. Never phased it. The lock on the RAM is the same style, just not as beefy.

Flipping the 0200 is easy, as I'm sure you already know. The 0500 flips just as easy, both opening AND closing. Like the RAM, it just takes a little practice to time the release button just right. 10 minutes should have you flipping the 0500 with ease.

So for me to say they are both overbuilt is easy. It's tough to decide between the two based on lock strength. Consider the 2 main differences instead: blade and handle shape, and is the sealed pivot of importance to you. That's the easiest way to decide.

But I must give the Kershaw sub answer too: Buy them both! ;)

The 0500 is a very different knife. Personally if I could only have one it would be the 0200, I like that knife a lot.
The handle on the 0500 works, but it's pretty straight forward, not the kind of thing you put in your hand to admire (like with the 0200), just to use. It works very well and if the sealed pivot serves your needs it is indeed a fine knife to have.

Well, I'm not buying both right now.
I sorta think I like the handle on the 0200, the way it flips so smooth and the blade shape better, so I will get a PE model like I wanted in the first place.
Thanks to all for some great information and opinions on these.

The thing about the Mudd that surprised me was how rough the G10 on the handle is. It would be fine with gloves, but it is not very comfortable with bare hands. Not only the sides of the G10, but the edges of the G10 where it meets the liners. They are not curved, but are 90 degree angles, so there is a hard edge. Actually two of them as the G10 is cut in a stairstep down to the liner.

Also it is a bear for pocket carry. Rough G10 is hard to clip into pocket without wear.

Also the clip is a little different. It curves over the top of the knife and is connected on the other side with no other support. There is more movement of the clip side to side when holding it than I am used to.

I have both the 0200 and the 0500. The 0200 is more comfortable by far. I like the Mudd for what it is. It is neat, but it is all rough, hard edges.

Standard disclaimer: My opinions, I may be wrong.

they both are pretty good! i not going to tell you to get them both, but once you have one you're going to want to get the other! :)

jill....i have had both....i would get the 0200 if i had o choose one.....only because i can takeit apart and clean it and oil it.....the mudd can not tbe taken apart with my limited skills.....and who knows if i could ever get it back together if i did take it apart....the 0200 has a more comfortable handle i think too......those r my two cents and i'm stickin with em:D.....ryan

The best thing about the MUDD is that you don't have to take it apart for cleaning.

I'm sure the 0200 has a more comfortable handle. The 0500 handle can be softened a bit with some sandpaper, but it is still boxy.

For hard use in ditrty conditions, I'd pick the MUDD. For a good-looking, comfortable knife that is still tough enough for most tasks, I'd pick the 0200. (I chose the MUDD.)
