Can somebody tell me a bit about the cutting efficiency of the MUDD? I love the design, from what I've seen, but want to make sure that I'll be happy with the cutting ability before I pull the trigger. Would you say that it cuts as well as something like a Spyderco Endura4?

I just don't want a blade that is too thick at the edge. That kind of knife is great for many people, but not really for me. I don't have to have a scalpel-like blade, but do want some relatively good cutting efficiency.

Thanks for any insight you might be able to shed.

I always felt like it cut just fine. If you don't like how it cuts it's a simple fix, reprofile it yourself or send it to Tom Krein.

I'd rather not grind down the blade, as I'd like to keep the black blade coating.

Well with that being the case, I dunno. Like I said I felt like it cut pretty well.... I'd not call it a slicer, but, not bad. I had kinda suspected one of the local dark-siders would have shown up by now. Hang tight and maybe tommie or someone with the numbers will be along.:o

Ok, ok. The dark side reference was enough.

I took a sampling of edge thicknesses from various knives, measuring where the edge bevel meets the primary grind.

BG-42 Military - .0240"

- - ZT0200 - .0345"

- - MUDD - .0285"

- - Police 3 - .0270"

And my ZDP-189 Caly 3 which was entirely re-profiled is somewhere around .002".
(sorry, I couldn't resist bragging)

You don't hear people complaining about the 0200, so the MUDD should be fine. Just remember it is still a pretty thick blade, so you've still got the wedge factor.
At least the edge won't be your bottleneck.
