Well, here's a picture that shows part of my backyard. . .

the sand is actually left over from when the dredge mined Idaho city, so there's sandy spots and piles of river rock all over. As the dredge moved along it separating the two. This was about 60 years ago.

Yeah, i thought i would be good to show the knife actually in some sand. . .it's one thing to think about it, another to actually see it

That is really amazing! REALLY tempts me into getting one.

How much continuous use like that do you think the knife would endure?

The Mudd knife was designed to play in the sand and mud. As long as the seals are good, and the rubber boot is around the button, nothing is going to get inside the pivot and locking area. The seals are made out of urethane, which is a very strong material. Urethane is the same material skateboard wheels are made out of.. .although the seals in the mudd knife are of a lesser durometer. The rubber boot on the lock is made out of Neoprene, which is a top quality rubber. I don't think you'll ever get sand in your mudd knife unless you some how destroy the rubber and seals.
It should work great on that beach in your avatar pic. . .

Gavin is that the framework of a tepee in your backyard? :) at least you don't have to mow the lawn! :D

Jack. . .yep that's our tee pee. . .we have to take the canvas off during the winter months, and haven't had time yet this spring to put it back up. I haven't had to mow a lawn in a very long time. although i have to spray noxious weeds once a year. . .not looking forward to that.
