MUDD's great

Managed to get my hands on a MUDD for about 48 hours - it's previous owner really missed it - so we both helped the US mail again. I've got a couple of questions : 1.) Anyone know if there are any pics posted somewhere of the thing diss-assembled ? Really curious about both the pivot assembley and just how the lock works. 2.) What's with the razor edges to the G10 scales? Is there some obscure martial arts form that only uses the closed knife to cut your oponent (slp?) to slivers? Really - the only un-comfortable thing about this big tool is the G10 edges.3.) Someone at Kershaw has seen the light on clips - why aren't they all like this? 4.) I'm not sure there are two other people in the world interested in this - but this knife very moderatly scaled down - with a really stout tipped 3" blade would be great. A tough use tool for sure.

Try this thread for some pics.
Blasphemy or just customafied my ZT 500

Oddly enough the custom MUDDs are smaller. OregonEdge had pictures up comparing them, but they seem to be gone now.

You might check out the RAM, it has a 3 1/8th inch blade and a similar lock.

Well, audiopile, your loss is another's gain...:D

Seriously, I've heard a few complaints on the G-10 used on the ZT Mudd, & Kershaw's Grooves & RAM. I agree, the clip on the Mudd's great & it'd be nice if Kershaw used it on more of their knives (Didn't the proto-type RAM that Thomas W. shows pics of now & them have one?).

I didn't think about it before, but perhaps you'd like the Kershaw RAM? It's hollow grind & the tip's not REAL stout, but the blade shape "might" be more to your liking.

The local Sportsmans Warehouse had just gotten their first RAM in - Very impressed - except - it's another sliver picker - tip is too delicate for my abusive everydayuse. Did notice the LAHR ( spl?) for the first time - that braoader and presumably tougher tip profile on a RAM size blade and mechanism knife would be a real winner ( oh -yeah-all black too)

The 500 I handled the other day did not have the little glass breaker on the clip. Did they stop making them with the breaker?

The ZT0500 is right up there with the ZT0200 for me. I like the short clip point blade on this one. The G-10 scales will come off and that is what I did and then I used some worn out 600 grit wet/dry sandpaper and 45'ied those edges. Made it feel a lot better in my hand.

I took the pivot screws out on both sides, and you just have to "make" your own tool to do so, and removed the scale without the locking mech. I sust wanted access to the blade, and the pivot. I was hesitant to take the lock scale off, so I didn't. What I did do was make a mistake putting the neoprene washers back by getting them backwards, and upon completion it was easy to tell. Took it back down and got the neoprene correct, put it back together, and have had absolutely no problems since then.

I did do a mod job on the clip to get it to my satisfaction, but that's another post. Suffice to say that the ZT0500 is another one of the ZT masterpieces!

I believe the 1st ones did, but the clip was grabbing onto too much pocket material, making it difficult to pull the knife out. I'm not sure what # they did it, but they then put on smooth pocket clips w/o the glass breaker. It still allows for deep carry (Something I really like, especially for such a "tactical" looking knife).

I actually traded mine away, but I'm getting mine back, whew! What was I thinking?!
