Anybody had any problems with these blades? I've barely used mine to cut squat, and especially not against any bone or other hard surface, and I noticed the edge is so nicked up it looks like a saw.

??? Really? Can you post a few pix of the edge? I have a black coated AD that I use quite a bit... No edge damage whatsoever.

Really? You mean the actual edge right, and not the coating? The steel/heat treat is the same for every knife from Busse, as is the warranty. There's an unconditional guarantee for the life of the knife. They'll fix whatever issue any of their knives are having.

Exactly what squat did you cut with it? What specifically has happened to the edge: rolling, chipping, dulling? You say there are actual nicks, as in missing steel? Very curious. More specifics might help.

This thread is worthless without pics. It is incredibly unlikely that an actual INFI knife used to "cut squat" would have this problem. The only time I've seen an ugly edge on any of my Busses is while learning to sharpen them. Frightening. I hope my FBM forgives me.

WHat exactly have you cut with it? What particular model is it? :)

hmmmmm.......i would think that if i posted something like that i would want a pic to protect myself.

Could you be more specific as to what you have cut with it exactly? In addition, as all others have thus far pointed out, it would be very useful if you could provide some pictures with as much details as possible.

NO, it's not the coating-I know a coating from an edge. "Squat" means I cut some steaks and some vegetables in the kitchen. If I could get my hands on a good digital camera, I would have taken pics, but I sure as heck don't need them to "protect" myself. Finally, to whom it concerns, worry about your own panties, since you apparently have a lot of experience with that.

I am not slamming Busse knives-I've had several of them and generally swear by INFI, just got a Satin Jac user from this forum and love it...BUT anything made by human hands can have issues-heat treatments can go wrong, with anybody. I would assume that a forum dedicated to a product would be the place to inquire about the product. I didn't know if any other folks had seen this and was asking. Since a significant portion of the responses are what they are, I will correspond with the maker directly-I don't even want him to redo the edge, just to know if any information indicated any run had any heat aberratrions. Thanks for all your help.

I have a muddy meaner also. The coating is starting to show wear from being inserted and drawn from a make-shift sheath. Chuddy Bear is making me a proper one as we 'speak.' But the edge is holding up very well. I just touched it up this morning, and it is in great shape. I have cut more than snot with my and haven't been able to chip/roll/dent it yet. There are plenty of people here would take an interest in any Busse issues you might be having, including the big man himself...post pics man, post pics.

Good for you! This should have been brought to "the maker" first. I think he may want pictures or proof as well, even if you don't want to use the warranty. You have publicly questioned quality control, whether you meant to or not.

mister wilburn:

I have accused my family and friends, only partly in jest, of chopping concrete with my Muddy Meaner. I had a Public Defender and, last year, in a bind at my wife's rental house, used it to chop off limbs and a few small trees, without issue one on the edge, so I am just puzzled. Heck, I didn't even get a turkey this fall season to skin with it!

mymindiswhatever...

I feel that I have every right to ask if anyone else has any issues with this particular run of knife, and I sure didn't need to arouse any self-appointed watchdogs. In my experience, "the maker"'s record speaks for itself and maybe he can, too. But, everybody needs a hobby! Arf!

Yes, of course you have the right to ask. In this case, and even in the case of Busses in general, Busses being both relatively expensive and undeniably high quality products, "issues" are highly uncommon, as the search function may reveal. If there was a batch out there with a notable number of in any way faulty knives, there would most likely be a sticky in the forum, and about a million threads started both by users and Jerry discussing the issue and urging for the knives to be sent back for warranty. The kind of issues that you can see with at least some regularity are experiences with coatings slightly flaking, or having tips that aren't perfectly sharp. But chipping (nicked) edges, that's always big news. Which is why everyone's been asking for pictures - it's an extremely rare event. :)

Cw,

Please don't be offended by my fellow forumites. I think they just jumped to the conclusion that you may be a troll in that you posted about severe chipping on a knife from cutting "air" :D.

No worries though, just contact Busse directly and I am positive that Jerry and crew will have you fixed right up.

As to your question, this is the first post I have seen regarding chipping Meaner edges. I havent had any problems with my muddy meaner yet. Maybe Jerry added too much Scotch to the quenching process on yours. :D

Your best bet would probably be to just call the shop this morning.

I am sure Jerry will fix this right up for you whatever it might be. A picture wouldnt hurt but since you dont have one we just have to ask to make sure of what it is.

I used my meaner to cut some air biscuits, and the edge was fine. can't say the same for my nose.
