Nice, those carp sure do put up a good fight. Too bad they taste like mud. The channel cat smoked tastes awesome, that one you are holding looks like the perfect eating size.

I'm sure you know but if you put carp in a holding tank for a week, with fresh running water, then it cleans them out (that's how the monks did it). At Christmas I often see carp for sale in supermarkets, the eastern European folks love them.

Ive eaten a lot of carp. Love it on a sandwich with tartar sauce and tomato. The fish markets have a machine that cuts the meat so that the bones cook up. Ive tried it by hand with not much luck.

love the taste of carp. There is a lake that dad and me drive about 2 hours each way but the water in the lake is realy clean and the fish is sweet tasting. Carp goes realy well in the fisherman soup. Next month its our fishing trip to the lake again. Guess i better post some pics at the end of the day...

I suppose if that is the only fish around. We usually just catch a better tasting one. I'd eat the channel cat or bullheads over carp anyday of the week. My buddy was from Warsaw and he used to tell me stories about Christmas carp and how his dad would put the live fish in the bathtub the night before Christmas eve. I've also been told that white sucker can be good when the fillet is ground up in a meat grinder, along with onions and onion soup mix to make fish paddies. I tried that also and kept wondering why I ruined onions and onion soup mix like that ;);) Hey its protein and edible, but I'd rather spend my day filleting 30 bluegills or blackcrappie. But thats just me.

in truth a little x-tra prep makes carp really good. the chinese & many europeans eat them & at least one guide service near houstun specializes in them. garfish can be opened with tinsnips & the meat scooped from the sides of the backbone to make delicious garballs. personally i catch & release them but gaspergou [fresh water drum] are really quite good.---dennis

I know more than a few people that love smoked carp meat. I just let them go, they fight hard enough to earn their freedom every time.

Catfish on the other hand, mmm. Love it.

Did that fish spine him or what? Maybe he got part of the hook while trying to remove it? He was bleeding pretty good.

Great pics. I cant wait to get out and wet a line. Ive already got a cabin reserved at some Trout waters for next month.

I like Carp. I eat Carp, Drum, Catfish, sucker fish....Its all in the prep.

thanks for looking guys, jeremy stuck the sharp dorsal fin under his nail. i have several of these guys that were raised by uncaring fathers that did'nt teach them to hunt or fish. as an ole timer [72] i feel a little guidance will help them make not as many mistakes. my track record is blemished by 2 injuries since sept. last. i try to keep them from major screwups, one guy had never fired a gun until i tutored him.--dennis
