i don't know what ghetto sheaths he mentioned in his e-mail...these are pretty well made already.
perfect handle length for me...most other knives of this type i have handled have a similar length relative to my hand (spyderco bushcraftuk, fiddleback forge, skookum bush tool, battle creek knives, blind horse knives, etc.) so i think it's spot on.
the scandi grind is a little wavy although mud did say he sucks at sharpening in the past so no surprise here
i'm sure he'll figure out how to make a sharpening jig or something.
there are little fit and finish issues like this triangle ricasso thing isn't perfectly symmetrical and there are errant sanding marks in the steel itself.
perfect here though!
without even using it there's a readily noticeable hot spot in my hand's webbing (the area between my index finger and thumb). the shoulder area of that handle needs to be thinned out and rounded just a little more. in comparison, the black knife is near perfect in ergos already and i think i could use it for long periods comfortably as is
i like the maker's mark. i still say stick a serial #001 of 100 there and jack up the price to $300
change the handle color next month and reset to #001, rinse and repeat.
mudman could've easily taken the easy way out and went for the straight spine on the back of the handle...the 4-sided coke bottle handle is probably the hardest shape to get right but mudman dove in head first..this dude's fearless! heck, his knives' ergos are already better than a somewhat famous...alright, insanely in demand knife for some reason, the skookum bush tool.
skookum bush tool in the middle.
mudman - cancel your order for the skookum and forget about it...it'll feel like holding a brick compared to your knives!
i didn't ask mudman to be on this pass-around...he asked me to play with his knives because he knows i won't suck up to him and blow smoke up his ass, only saying nice things - which won't help him get better...at the rate of progress he's making, i'm not going to go easy on him because i know he's capable of producing a knife that can compete with the $200+ knife makers out there...this year
...going hiking tomorrow with them and will add more to this thread.
