Mudrazor reprofiling

I have a Mudrazor that i love but find the edge to more geared towards chopping, as opposed to slicing/skinning deer, etc. Are there any forum members that could provide the service of making my knife more of a "cutter"? -or any suggestion as to who might rework the edge and thin it out a little bit? i just dont have the tools/experience to confidently attempt this feat without the likelihood of marring up the edge/blade surface. Any input would be appreciated.

bill siegle does great edge work.

or you can give the busse shop a call and see what they can do.

Two good suggestions of knifemakers who do great work.

Another idea is member Ban. He's not a knifemaker, but has been doing some beautiful work on re-grinds lately. Of course, all this will void your warranty, but most people aren't worried.

To the extent some of these guys do (think belt sander across the entire main bevel) yeah. Alot of the recent work these guys do is far more involved than mere edge work.

Reprofiling is not hard with the right tools.
I have the cheapest $30 dollar belt sander.
I practiced on all the kitchen knives first!!

Just reprofiling the edge shouldn't void the warranty. Doing entire blade mods will, however.

jerry posted somewhere here that even though bill does fantastic work, his mods void the warranty.

i wouldnt think that would apply to an edge reprofile, which is basically just a sharpening.

Don't risk it, I'll give you $247 for your Mud Razor and you can find a more appropriate slicer.

The upcoming Anniversary Steel Heart 1 should fill that role pretty well with a similar size to the Mud Razor.

Forget wash, I'll give you $50.00 and an Active Duty!;):p

I can't imagine re-profiling the edge of your Busse would do anything to the warranty. I imagine you just want to make it a little thinner? Now make the whole entire blade thinner, wel that's a different story. Call Busse if you want to be completely sure.

Thanks for the replies everybody(and the offers from Hogwash and Solstice ;) ). Anyways , it is true that i just want to make the edge a little thinner - not the entire blade. So i guess i will have to do a little warranty research before i make a move.

I just had this done a few weeks ago and my MR is even better than before. It was done by a custom knife maker over here so not much use for you. Get it done though. Mud Razors ROCK!!!!

Thinning the edge ala reducing the angle on the secondary bevel should not and will not void your warranty.

Thinning down the whole primary bevel is another story and needs to be confirmed by Busse.

Changing the 2ndary bevel will increase slicing performance until the thicker portion of the primary bevel gets in the way.
