Hello Folks.

I stumbled on a Muela knive, real nice blade shape, sharp too, completly screwed up handle. I can get it at a very low price.
Is the quality of the steel good enough to make a new handle for it?
What is it actually? It sais Molybdenum-Vanadium. Now, in 420 steel these are not present. What steel is in reality?

thanks in advance.

I got my mint Muela Arocho from Brian here at BFC, and my first reaction was WOW.

Although it's the old model (some 10 to 15 years ago) and is still made of carbon steel (acero el carbuno). For a carbon steel blade, this one is pretty light and fast.

I don't really know much about the stainless models, other than I see them posted on eBay once in a while.

Why not make a new handle for it? All knives are worth reviving, if only for the joy of reviving it.

I had a Muela Bowie years ago. It held up well and held a pretty good edge. Rehandle it for sure.

Their german representative (Bocker) says:
"its similar to 440-C".
Personal remark (I do use one):
it's easy to sharpen
it holds an edge nicely
its colour says: less chromium than 440-series. It's more like 420-series, but definitely harder!
Happy sharpening
