Been looking at various Muela crown stag knives. Look decent and reasonable prices. I am wondering if others have purchased similar ones and am asking how good are they in quality and if they can be used in real life.

Seen other threads on the steel they use and on some of the tactical types and they have a decent to good reputation. I am looking for data on the crown stag handle knives.

Thanks in advance.

I have at least a half dozen Muela knives (they are common here in Mexico while americans are not and germans are very expensive). They seem to be softer steel in the inexpensive models and harder in the higher priced ones, they are strongly built and perfom well. I have one of the crown stag models and it is the hard steel, haven´t used it much but it seems good (looks too good to use) what I don´t like is that the guard is not well sealed so that water or dirt could get inside the handle, I also dislike all of the Muela leather sheaths as they seem to easily dry out and break.

Happy New Year

Have the 4" Survival model(looks like a skinner though)...

bought in 97, and emailed a couple years ago to find out about materials and RC value.

440C, deep hollow grind, kraton handle, nylon guard... crappy leather sheath.

I've used it for kitchen duty, field food prep, boxes, and whitling... I took a long time putting an edge I liked on it with a 1200 grit stone(only one we had then), but it has lasted this long.
They hardened it high enough to make it last longer.

At $40 when I bought it, it's worth a lot more. And thats a lot considering the $900+ I've spent on spydies.
