Okay, haven't been bad lately and eBay was getting worried about me. I couldn't help it. I liked the look of this Muela (pic is from auction) and it was just over $20 so what can I say. To me it looks pure fighter. Since I can't afford a Randall #1 and really don't have any desire to put real dollars into this type of knife at present, I went for it.

I've been searching the net and can't find anything on this particular model. I come across the cheap tacticals with the bowie type blades and serrations with straight plastic grips or kraton. This has the usual cheap sheath that looses it's keeper strap as soon as you look at it. I won't really use that sheath anyway. I know many of the Muelas use 440C and 440A, or the like and that some of the cheapest tacticals use 420(J2 I think). Anyone know this particular model enough to actually know the steel in it? The blade reads Muela in larger letters and Made in Spain over INOX.

I'm mainly trying to find out what I can of it while I wait on it to get here. It's one of those whims that you have when you say, "Hey, for that I can live with it, whatever." Okay, I've long been attracted to that blade style and I've wanted a Muela, but not been compelled to spend a lot for either at any given time. If the steel is a 440 I might consider it for a rehandle to a natural material or maybe a black linen micarta at sometime. If not, oh well, I'll just play with it as is.

I have not seen that particular Muela but have had and used both their cheaper models and their top of the line, there is a big difference in materials both in the blade and in the handle, but they tend to be well made always.

I would guess that what you have is the 440A type steel, its not bad, the cheaper models tend to have thin blades, not bad but I would like them thicker.

The guard and pommel look like the black aluminum that I have seen in others, they are fine and I feel much better than others where they use some kind of heavy cast metal.

About the Handle, I've had some with a hard black plastic material and some with a softer more "sticky" kind, this one looks like the hard one which I feel is plenty tough.

I hope you like it.

Ahh, I was confident that Don Luis would drop by eventually. How are you?

Thank you for your response. I still haven't gotten any of the stag Muelas I've had my eye on, but the day grows closer I think.

I feel pretty certain the guard and pommel are indeed the black aluminum you mention. I like that idea better. The heavy cast would impair handling on a knife that is meant to have quick movement, I think.

I don't have much in it dollar wise so I will keep my expectations down a bit. I can live with 440A as I've had many good knives in 440A, despite what some folks say about it.

Once again, many thanks for your response and a great day to you!
