Hello my friends,

Please, could you tell me your opinion about the knife MUELA TORNADO.
Thank you.

Claudio:confused:

I think Muela make some pretty darn good knives. I do not personally care for military style knives, but this one looks to be made well and is reasonably priced. I like the look of the regular blade much more than the coated one.

Welcome to the forums.

The Muela Tornado is one hell of a knife for the price. It is actually a copy of the SEAL Knife 2000 from SOG
( http://www.sogknives.com/seal2k.htm ).
Muelas can be used for anything you could imagine; hammering, prying, stabbing and cutting.
I have abused my Muela ranger beyond belief and it is still here. The main use I have for it is to remove the nastier jobs from my more exspensive knives:

I have a link to some great pictures of the Muelas:

Buck112, thanks! I was looking for more info and you have provided the big chunk of it ..

Muela Alce - 7120 on the link. Further questions:

Can anyone tell more about this? It says ZAMAK handle, does it mean the grip is zamak? or the guard?

How far the tang of the blade goes into the handle and what is the blade material? 420HC?

Thinking of getting one, but not sure .. comparing it with Victorinox Hunter (the fix blade, not the folder). Vic has better grip and thicker utility blade at about twice the price.

The zamak is some kind of brass that is used for the guard. The handle on the knife you are talking about is plastic, plain and simple.
The steel is some kind of molibdenum-vanadium stainless steel (Rockwell 56 to 58). It is actually some kind of 440 series steel.
The knife (Tornado) which is being discussed in the begining of this thread is simply marked "440". The tang goes all the way through the handle on the muela knives.

The workmaship on these knives are excellent and they are reasonably priced.

Hey Soul-blade look at my first post in this thread. There is a link to a homepage where they also have the muelas for sale.

Buck112, just to make myself understand better:

The Alce also has tang all the way down the handle? And it is marked inox only. Can it be of lower end of their lines?

Tha alce has about 2 inch worth of tang, the rest of the handle is a alu or zamak frame. Usually companies like Muela make good knives as long as you stay in the higher regions, like the tornado or mirage.. if you looks carefully.. below the tornado quality goes down same as price.

Personally I have had 2 good muela knives, each with satisfying result, and one bad one ( broke the tang off while cutting a stake ).
They are worth their money for sure, but I think there are better knives out there from a utilitarian point of view ( becker line ), BUT.. you gotta admit.. muela makes some damn pretty knives for production knives.. only few other production knife companies make'm that pretty at that price.

In restrospect I don't regret buying them, but I would have saved up the money for a busse, swamp rat or something custom... would have been better.

greetz and take care, Bart.

If it has Vanadium in it, it is not a 440 steel. It may though be an AUS equivalent such as AUS8, 8a or 10. Considering the price of the knife, if it is an AUS steel it is probably AUS8.

Hi,

Zamak is actually a type of cast Zinc, it keeps cost down, and works well if not exposed to extreme stress. I agree on Muela, they make great using knives, Aitor does also.

:D:).
