MUK or BATAC

Alright, I have been searching for a hunting knife and last week I picked up a BUSSE SJTAC. It is an awesome knife! It has enamored me with BUSSE knives. Unfortunately the more I looked at it the more I realized i underestimated the true size of this knife and images of my fingers getting poked and cut inside a deer flashed before my eyes. As a result I began a search a for a slightly smaller knife. A fellow forum member has given me the choice of either a BATAC or a MUK in trade.

The question that I am posing to the BUSSE community is which knife will serve as a better hunting knife. Is basic job will be to gut large game in the field. Then it will be used to skin and process the game at camp

Thanks ahead of time guys. I have definitely caught the Busse addiction.

I would have to go with the MUK (Its the HOG MUK LE right?). Its a much thinner blade and the shape is made for skinning. The BATAC is a nice blade, but its way to thick for gutting, and skinning game IMO.

I had the same question and started a similar thread a couple weeks ago.

I ended up with a CABS and a Muk. My initial impression is that the CABS is more suited for my needs.

ya its the MUK LE. My only concern and RussMo was kind enough to point it out as well is for splitting the pelvic bone on a deer for example the MUK might not have enough thickness. thoughts?

for splitting an elk pelvis, maybe not, but white-tail or muley it should be fine.
(at least I hope so, because that's my plan!)

Splitting the pelvic bone is overated. I rarely do it anymore. The Muk should be perfect for your hunting needs.

Hunting = MUK
Camping = BATAC

If I'm lucky enough to take a muley or elk this year I'll be using my hog muk & war dog.
I have no doubt the muk will chop through an elks pelvic bone no problem.
It is infi after all.

Muk & Cabs. Listen to Rocketman.
WTF is this pelvic bone spliting crap? Who dose that??? The Same people that cut off each of antlers at the coronet and show up at my place & say can you mount my Deer head?.
For F#%@ sake ,Buy a Mora clipper or CABS & learn to cut the bung hole out the correct way. The Cheep as chips, Mora is the best knife i have ever found for cutting out the ring gear on any animal.
.... Rant over.

Note to self: Get another CABS .One is not enough.
Note to others: The CABS family is just the best blade since flint rock was first found.

Not to hijack, but a friend of mine uses this:

He swears by it. Of course, you still have to cut; but it's supposed to be a lot easier.

I used a CABS last year for whitetail (dressed and butchered three) and loved it so much I bought a second CABS just in case. The MUK blade profile just doesn't agree with me, although lots of others love it.

If you can't find a CABS- I would go with a Boss Street- especially if you still split the pelvic bone- which I don't.

Well the trade offer I recived from a fellow member is for eather a BATAC or a MUK. So many diffrent options.

Another vote for a SCABS, will probably cover everything for the animal as well as a good majority of camp stuff. Maybe a SCABS and ASH1 if you really want to be sure that all bases are covered.............

Sorry these are not the choices you posed in the OP.

Muck, Cabs and B11, and every angle is covered!

(I also have a Sarq, KZII and BAD).

So I can pretty much do what ever I need done.

The Muck is not "thin". Just thinner than some other Busse's. Plenty of spine to be strong enough. Slitting the pelvis? I think my Muck LE factory edge is at least 30 per side! Plenty of thickness there to handle whatever! My CABS has a much thinner laser edge, and a very acute point to for fine detail work. The Muck has more point strength. It is riding in my pocket right now, in a leather clip sheath.

I ended up going with the muck trade ships monday realy excited for this knife. I am a sucker anyways for the Muks blade shape

I think you will like that Muck!

I have to say, the Badger in the thinner variants really sits well in my hand too!
