I recently bought a muk and I'm in love with it. I had been searching for one for a while and finally one came up for sale. Now I'm looking for another because I'd like a back up of what had become my favorite design. However these things are super hard to find. What causes this?

Yeah I suppose that will do it. Was it a one time run or will they do a second batch? I just got into fixed blades a few weeks ago and busses about a week or so ago. In that time I've gotten a hell razor, a scrap yard s5, and a muk. On the look out for a scrapmuk, a team Gemini, and an ash-1. This is going to be so bad for my wallet. :(

The thing with the HOG Muk, is that we pretty much bugged Jerry for it incessantly for over a year or more since he showed us a couple of prototypes he made. When he decided to do a run, he never put it on the website, but rather chose to sell it Ganza style (virtual show) and gave us only 10 days to place an order before cutting it off.

. . . is coming to the Ganzaaaaaaaaa???? . . . . .

Say what?????. . . .

Well, at least one of the prototype designs will make its debut on Thursday at the Cupidganzaaaaaa with special pricing for the HOGs ! ! ! !

This does not mean that there will only be one knife . . . it means that we will be offering one of the prototype versions or designs with a variety of handle choices!!!!. . . .There will be lots of them!!!!!!

This will be a one-time-only offering of this particular MUK. . . .

So, grease your meece and load your piece!!!! . . . . . MUK Warfare begins in 2 days!!!!!

Let's Drink!!!!!

The Ganzaaaaa special pricing for everyone will floor you!!!. . . .

The "HOG Only" Special pricing is absolutely INSANE!!!!!!!!!!

Howdy Moonberrys,
Can you elaborate on what you have done with your MUK to be in love with it. I have been patiently waiting on a review of the MUK. Can you give us one? Thanks.

I'm interested in a review from different user viewpoints, but as a MUK-owner, I would say it's a great li'lle everyday knife with a bit of extra design twist, what just feels right in the hand. Great balance, "anorexic" cutting power, superb in the kitchen, too.
I haven't done any skinning type of work, but cleaned and filleted quite some fish in the 2 - 4 kgs range, cutted bones, spine etc., and it works perfect for that, too.
Like I said, it's a lovely blade what just "feels right". (I have a hard time switching between my CABS and MUK...)

I really am waiting to see first hand reviews on this knife. I can not believe that no one has made one skinning, bushcraft or anythibng of the like. I wish Virtualvoice on Youtube would do one.

I absolutely love the MUK and similar to Ikkyo I use it far more than the CABS. I used it last week to cut up the turkey and it worked great, cut right through some tough cartilage and bone. Honestly, it's become one of my go to knives for bigger work that my Swamp Rat RS would take a lot longer to do. The shape of the blade and the weight definitely feel great in the hand, but I might shave down the top of the handle, it's a bit tall for my girly hands :)

Talked to Amy about a custom Muk a few weeks ago and she told me that they don't have any blanks left.

I'm not looking for a busse muk, I'm looking for a scrapmuk. That design catches my attention more.

I couldn't decide on what color to get when they were for sale, so bought a few, now I can't bring myself to sell any and my favorite is different than my wife's favorite. they are nice knives

I had the same problem too, so I got a couple more than a few... :D

I have a Muk and love it, but contrary to everything I read about them, I've found it's use in the kitchen fairly limited. It's too short, too thick and has too much belly to be a good cutting/slicing knife. However it is easily the best knife I've used in the kitchen for processing chickens and the like. Perfect shape and tough/weighty enough to chop through bone, which can be enhanced with that large belly and a rocking motion on a board. Further, I see it's use as a bushcraft knife fairly limited too. Handle shape is wrong (for me), edge is too thick and the tip and spine are all wrong. I can't carve or make things with the Muk and I certainly can't pierce things with it. It's a great knife and I'll never sell it, I just think it's not as versatile as some people want it to be. Where it shines is in fairly specific applications, probably best suited to hunting etc.

My 2c.

Chris.

I like my Muk. It cuts peppers great, and goes through tough sweet potatoes like butter. It slices well, very manuverable, batons well, and feels good. The one thing it can't do is chop, no matter how far you choke down, it can't chop; but, it wasn't made to so it's a great knife. If the Mini Muk ever comes out it would be one AMAZING blade :D ;)

The Scrapmuk rocks. It makes great curlies for tinder, sharpens sticks for roasting over the fire, has sliced and diced any and everything in the kitchen that I have thrown at it. Haven't resharpened it since the cover edge I put on it initially. It's an excellent design.

Have they stopped doing true "custom" orders? I thought the custom shop would make anything you could dream up? (The base estimate seems to be $100/inch of blade, but varies a bit.)
Does this mean you can get cheaper "custom" Busse knives if they have leftover blanks?

Honestly I'm not exactly sure. I've never actually ordered from the custom shop yet so not sure what SOP is. I was under the same thought as you that you can just order anything that is truly custom, but based on Amy's email i'm now thinking that custom orders are based on blanks they have remaining. I could be completely off base here and other people might know better than my limited knowledge.
