There here........

Man, are the mulberries in this year. I can't remember the last time the crop was this good.

I have about four trees along the side of my property that will keep me in jelly for the better part of the year.

I went picking barefoot like the hippie that I am and now my feet are stained like I've been stomping wine all day.:D

i've only had mulberry's a few times... they don't grow in these parts.... :( we do however, have blackberries everywhere...:D they are soooo yummy.... i have a few pacthes that i frequent, while mtn. biking, this time of year....:)

i have a muleberry longbow.... it's a nice shooter... it was made by a ca. bowyer named bill price, who recently passed away.... my son and i, grabed a few of his primitive bows a while back.... he was a great guy.....:(

Mulberrys? I've only ever seen a tree once when I was a kid and underneath it was carmine it looked like a massacre had taken place:eek:

Is it true that silkworms feed on mulberry leaves? Superstition says the mulberry is a lucky tree, if you have four then you have no worries:thumbup:

I don't know how the mulberry around my parts would do as a bow stave.

Its a weak, flexable wood with a soft, pithy center.

I have used the juice from the berries to stain wood, wasn't really thrilled with the results, too purple.

Hey Guys

Mtnfolk Mike...

Since Mulberries don't grow in your area,, may I make a suggestion...

You make a jar or two of blackberry jam and send it to Shotgunner..
Shotgunner,, you make a jar or two of mulberry jam and send it to Mntfolk Mike!!

We could start a jam swapping co-operative !

Just an idea

Don't park your car anywhere near a mulberry tree! The birds love those things and they really seem to make them "go". Nasty purple mess all over the car.
That stuff does make good bow wood. If I am not mistaken, it is right behind osage and yew for longbow making.

Man,

My daughters and I are waiting for this years crop.

Here's a pic from last year:

I love mulberries, they grow well here in the San Joaquin Valley. I need to put one in my yard.

That jam exchange program sounds good. I have a plum tree in my yard, and I make plum jam every year. I also get peaches from someone we know and make peach jam occasionally, too.

I whittled my best ever slingshot out of a piece of mulberry branch about 48 years ago. Much later I made the mistake of giving it to my little brother. He never did value it like I did. So much for trying to help out a kid! :D

Mulberry is great. I use to have a mulberry tree in my backyard before I moved. It was fun picking and eating them but was a pain when they started to fall like crazy and then birds and ants would go nuts with it. Wish I had some mulberry trees near me now but I remember the bus stop near my junior high school had loads of trees so that the sidewalk would be all stained. Shame the area is blocked off with a fairly high stone wall.

When we were kids we used to eat these until we got sick and smile and nod at the clueless folks parking their cars underneath the trees. Since we usually went barefoot our moms were well aware of when the berries ripened by the fresh stains on their carpets. I haven't had a mulberry in decades but I can still taste that sickly sweet yet mild flavor.

we get both black berries and mulberries here. when we can't get enough blackberries for a pie we fill in with the mulberries. The trees are like a weed though, they come up faster than cottonwood and you can't kill them. cut them down and shoots come up from the stump. ARRRG...
