It's "Takefu Cobalt Special", a laminated blade. AUS420J on the sides, with whatever "Cobalt Special" is on the inside. It has a hamon and is pretty dang cool overall. $10 more expensive than the M390 Mule. Dadgum sharp, too, I can tree top hairs with this thing. I reckon I'll keep it. I have a M390 Millie on order; guess I'll just wait for that.
Like you said, it's a Lamination line, not a hamon!
Thanks for the pics too, I did not know they encased the Cos-3 within two sides of Stainless
I am in the process of rebeveling/sharpening mine.
It is definitely a wear resistant steel, but most certainly not as difficult to work with as I had been led to believe. ATOMA diamond plates on the Edge-Pro work well, though not as rapidly as with other steels. I like it!:thumbup:
