I just picked mine up today. Has anyone put theirs to use yet? I'd like to hear your thoughts.

I'm pleased with the production quality and the factory edge gave good performance breaking down cardboard boxes during the first use. I've since sharpened it and it took a crisp edge pretty easily.
Another good one from Taichung!

Haven't put mine too serious yet since I can't decide what kind of scales I want to put on it. But the finish on it is very nice and the edge seemed to hold well cutting cardboard. Going to wait and resharpen after it's seen some real use. Its my first mule so I want it to be a perfect user.

This is my third. I'm thinking about box elder scales on this one. The finish seems slightly different than my others. I will say this one was the sharpest out of the box. Thanks for the replies.

Bladebug, the halpern scales seem nice, but being your first I'd go with something stabelized. Don't rush it and the process is fun and you'll have a one of a kind knife for life. Also if you mess it up, like me camping, you can fix it.

I check the Spyderco web site now and then, and yesterday, noticed a new steel for the Mule Team 19. I had not heard of this one, and ordered. Should have it by the first of next week, and it sure sounds interesting.
Now I'll need another handle, and sheath........................

How is the finish on this one different?

It seems my others are closer to a satin finish and this one still shows the grinding marks. It doesn't look bad at all and won't affect the performance, for me. Just a little different. I'm ordering the handle material this week.

I'm no expert but here is my observation after using the Edge Pro on a MT19 PSF27 followed by a MT in Elmax. I profiled both blades 15 deg. per side using the angle finder. The PSF27 seemed like it would never get a burr and it really didn't get much of one even when I knew I was at the apex under magnification. The Elmax seemed a little softer and was easy to feel the burr when I reached the apex. I took both blades to 10K on the Chosera stones (why not)? Stropped a few strokes with .5 um CBN paste on leather. I could shave comforably with either blade. Getting ready to put scales on them so have not used much. I could be wrong but The PSF27 would be my choice based soley on how it felt on the stones.

mine showed up yesterday in the mail. I have a provider lined up for a handle. I am going to ask Larry Parsons to make me one of his pancake cross draw sheaths.

The Halpern scales, I see they don't drill a hole for the lanyard, anyone do that with theirs? I can't imagine it taking too much to do, but since it is fastened on with hardware, probably wouldn't be epoxying in a lanyard tube?

I've only used mine in food prep so far. Cut up some onions, bell peppers, smoked sausage, chicken and some pork chops. No patina or anything, but I washed it well with some Dawn soap and wiped it down with an oil rag soaked with ballistol immediately afterwards. Still looks new.

Just started working on a few Mule 19s as contractor gifts. Is it my imagination or is the handle just a little bigger than on earlier models? Also, is seems the hole pattern is a bit different as well? Please forgive if this has already been addressed. It didn't show up in a cursory search...

If the pattern was different, I'm sure we would have heard by now, as I believe many have installed the Halpern scales with no issues...
