Mule team pricing question

This may be simple economics, but I have been wondering:

I know Spyderco makes little (if any) money on the mule team.
k390 (MT 17) is my most prized
s110v (MT 18) is no slouch

but why was MT 17 sold at $70, while s110v sold at $90?

Is this due to: material cost, labor cost, both? MT18 was US made, which I thought was more expensive for labor?
I would think that k390 steel would be about as difficult to grind and heat treat as the s110v?

As a secondary question: this makes me wonder if k390 was used for sprints, would they be cheaper than s110v sprints?
I am making a great business case for Spyderco to release sprints of k390...

thanks.

No idea! But if I had to guess, materials cost is probably the biggest factor. You have the numbers backward, btw.

Materials cost, as well as production costs. I'm sure S110v eats up the grinders pretty quickly...

Another factor may be the added cost of shipping the S110V to Taiwan and having the MT-18's manufactured there. Given Golden's backlog, it was probably a "you can have the S110V Mule now for $90, or a year or two from now for a few bucks less" situation.
