For thos of you that have the Spyderco Mules in ZDP-189 and in S90V, which do you like better? Is one holding an edge longer than the other?

No love for the CPM-S35VN? Not even an honorable mention?
I said the others were really good, which was meant to be more than just an honorable mention...that one might actually be my favorite, but it isn't in the same category as S90V or M4, or the dark horse MT01 in 52100. The only one I could not give really high marks to is MT-05, but when you consider the price, you can't not love that one, too.
Well in that case, all is forgiven
Personally, I love the S35VN steel. If only it were more widely available in the Spyderco lineup...![]()
S90v for sure..... I have had most of the Mule teams knives and this is my fav. The ZDP would be my least favorite.
Just curious what you dont like about the ZDP steel?
There was a problem with the heat treat on the ZDP mules, some of them broke I think.
We regret that we will not be able to ship any additional MT04P, ZDP-189 Mules. Our research indicates that the problem goes beyond the heat treat. We are unable to re-temper the knives as we had originally thought. They are not repairable and we will not be shipping any additional pieces. We’ve done extensive testing on both the folders and the fixed blades with ZDP-189 and found that the problem is only in the fixed blades and that the makeup was different.
If you have an MT04P without any issues we recommend that you keep your knife. If you have encountered issues (such as breaking, cracking, etc.) please contact our Warranty & Repair department. Since we cannot replace the knife, we will issue you a credit for the original MSRP of $79.95.
The Mule Team is a project based upon the desire to learn more about the steel and its performance. This scenario, although not planned, has certainly provided some valuable information into one of our industry’s most exotic steels.
We appreciate your continued support of the Mule Team project and your understanding regarding this challenge.
Thanx much!
That's what I've heard, so I've relegated mine to office duty. It still holds an edge forever, and for cutting envelopes and things like that, I'll probably not need to sharpen it before I die...There was a problem with the heat treat on the ZDP mules, some of them broke I think.
