Multi colour liner assembly tip

I usually use multiple layers of linerboard when assembling knives with liners and I have found that by pre laminating the three colours together with epoxy makes the final knife assembly easier.

I take three sheets of linerboard spread epoxy on both sides of the center board, place the resulting sandwich between two layers of polyethylene sheeting and weight them down until the epoxy cures.

After curing the composite sandwich can be handled as one piece. this makes final assembly less messy than trying to assemble three liner pieces and a handle scale.

No but Texas Knifemaker's supply saved my bacon yesterday on bright red liner. I had run out and none of the suppliers had any but Jim at Texas Knifemaker's took the time to rummage around in the stack of boxes he takes to shows and found one piece left over from some show to keep me out of trouble.

When I do liners I usually laminate red- white-red to mimic the Canadian flag and that brought this tip to mind.

Hey guys, When you glue up liners, do you do 3 whole sheets or cut into strips the size of your scale and then glue up? I haven't used them between the slab and the tang, but almost always put some between the bolsters and the front of the slab. Sometimes trying to glue 2 or 3 little tiny pieces 3/8 x 1 in is kind of a pain, so I just glue them together and to the end of the slab at the same time. a piece of cloth centered over the liner pieces and slab then twisted tight and clamped at the other end holds everything together till the epoxy sets.
