I'm going through some of my gear and wanted to improve upon the old basic scissors I carry. I wanted to know if any of you guys have any info on multi-function scissors. I saw these from Coleman: https://www.coleman.com/coleman/colemancom/detail.asp?product_id=836A412T&categoryid=6700

But I'm sure they are cheap. Not that I need a pair of bullet proof scissors but something along the same lines of thinking yet better made would be wonderful. Any know if these are a copy of a better system or if a better system exists.

Although I don't have a link, there are similar multi-purpose scissors marketed to EMS providers that are pretty tough. Not the regular EMT shears. These are larger and have built in bottle opener, wrench, etc. You will pay more but the durability may be worth it.

Edit: Found a link http://www.swiftems.com/ems_supplies.htm

I have some of those. A local dollar store had them. And I've seen them elsewhere. The price in the link is probably the highest I've seen them sell for.

I'm sure somewhere along the line, nicer multi purpose scissors have come along. But it seems scissors are one of those things where the floor has really dropped out. They're common as dirt, and even cheaper. There's relatively little incentive to invest in making such specialty scissors. I'm sure there are a few scissor aficionados out there willing to pay for a high end version, but few manufacturers willing to jump into that market.

It would be nice to have some scissors like these in better steel, with more nicely formed tools for true multi function utility. As is, they're only OK for grunge, brute force work, and somewhat disposable.

What about the Leatherman Hybrid? Does it's shears act anything like scissors. I mean as long as its' blades pass each other and don't meet in the middle like wire cutters, then as long as they were sharp they'd be fine heavy duty scissors right? Plus the Hybrid comes with some interesting tools for the woods and it folds. If anyone knows about how well those shears will cut say leather and T-shirt material then the Hybrid might be just what I'm looking for.
